So Much Fun in the Sun: 6 Best Outdoor Adventures to Have in NYC This Summer

Summer is on its way. WE PROMISE.

It may seem like winter has taken a page out of your lingering relative's book, refusing to leave even though you are clearly exhausted by it and would like it to please now leave you in peace, but we swear, warm weather is coming. For more than two days at a time.

And while you may think that you need to leave New York City in order to have some outdoor adventures this season, there's no need to trek upstate for some proper summer fun.

There's actually a ton of amazing activities to take advantage of right in the city.

So grab your friends and your SPF and get ready to enjoy all that the city has to offer in the warm weather.

Read on to discover all the best spots to have an adventure this summer in NYC.

1. Downtown Boathouse (Pier 96)

The best adventures are FREE adventures. We think most people would agree with us on that one.

Thanks to Downtown Boathouse, you can take to the Hudson River for a completely free of charge kayaking excursion.

You'll be able to enjoy the beautiful summer weather while catching some incredible views of downtown Manhattan that you don't normally get in your everyday routine.

2. Outdoor movies

Summer in NYC means outdoor movies galore - and we couldn't be more psyched.

Enjoying a movie under the stars right next to a thermos of wine is probably the best way to enjoy a movie, right? Right.

You can catch outdoor films at McCarren Park as a part of SummerScreen, as well as at Habana Outpost's summer series.

3. Camp No Counselors

Okay, so we totally lied. You do have to leave the City for this one. But it's worth it. Like, really, summer camp, the days when we had zero cares, and many s'mores. Don't you wish you could go back?

Well, you're in luck. This super fun, all-inclusive sleepaway camp for adults is just the thing to transport back to the blissful days of your youth.

Attendees will get to enjoy all the classic summer camp activities you know and love, including land and water sports, arts ‘n crafts activities, epic nightly theme parties, an open bar, gourmet meals, and even a Color War and Talent Show.

The weekends cost around $500-$600, but trust us, it's an experience you definitely wont forget. Get your tickets right here.

4. Bike and Roll NYC (Multiple NYC locations)

What better way to see NYC than on a bike tour?

These guided tours will allow you to explore your beautiful city up close, taking you through some of the city's most picturesque neighborhoods, and even across the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge.

The bike tours cost around $40, and include bike rental, a helmet, and water bottle.

5. Trapeze School New York (Multiple NYC locations)

If you're feeling particularly adventurous and are just a little bit insane, a trapeze class is the activity for you.

For only about $70, you can fly high on a swinging trapeze, led by super friendly and supportive instructors. It's certainly one way to mix it up this summer, and if nothing else, will serve as an excellent anecdote for future first date awkward pauses.

6. DUMBO Boulders

NYC's first-ever outdoor climbing wall opened in Brooklyn Bridge Park last month, and is a super inexpensive way to enjoy the outdoors while also taking in some incredible views of Manhattan.

Entrance and shoe rental fees come to only $9, so it's definitely a worthy way to spend a Saturday this summer.
