You may remember The Chetrit Group from their recent hand in hosting a controversial rave in the South Bronx to generate support for a potential luxury high rise development.
The plan is to turn the area around an old piano factory into "The Piano District," a "new" and desirable neighborhood featuring a very short commute to Midtown Manhattan. What you may not have known is that the very same Chetrit Group is due to erect the tallest building in Brooklyn.
The edifice will be going up at 340 Flatbush Extension in Downtown Brooklyn, and will reach at least 1,000 feet tall.
Previous reports mention the Chetrit and JDS Development project's height will be 1,250 feet tall, and given the plans registered with the city show the building topping off at 775 feet, nobody's really sure exactly how high the supertall will go.
Though the latest plans from SHoP Architects boast 1,000 feet, and that's impressive enough. At that height, 340 Flatbush Extension will be rivaling "Manhattan's next most exclusive address:" 151 East 60th Street, the 1,000-foot supertall going up in the City.

While the original plans are for a 495-unit, 70-story building, the new additions will top it off at 550 units and 90 stories.
Of the 140,000 square feet of commercial space to be available, it's likely a new and improved Dime Savings Bank will be in the works-- not to mention the 466,000 square feet of residential space.

And it wouldn't be trendy new Brooklyn if it wasn't skinny, right? The new building is planned to have a 12:1 height-to-width ratio, meaning it'll be much taller than it is wide, to a new degree.
Now, the really important part: cheesecake. Despite the fact that it's been reported that the adjacent property housing Junior's Cheesecake, which just had a birthday, would be razed in construction, here's the deal.
JDS doesn't own Junior's property, nor is there any statement confirming the razing plans. So soon, you'll be able to eat NYC's best cheesecake and stare up a 1,000-foot tall building, the highest in all of Brooklyn.
