10 Best Things to Do This (Not My?) President's Day Weekend in NYC

LONG WEEKEND, YASSSS!!! 

Regardless of how you feel about our current President, I think we can all agree we love a long weekend. 

Whether you're having a belated Valentine's Day celebration with your honey, or want to prep for the Oscars next weekend, there is plenty to do in NYC this weekend.

And for those of you lucky enough to have the day off on Monday, there's a late night rager going down at Irving Plaza.

So grab the George Washington to your Abe Lincoln (and the Washington's and Lincoln's in your wallet), and hit the town!


Friday, February 17th

1. Little Cinema: Romeo + Juliet @ House of Yes

Hey there, star-crossed lovers. Who says you have to stop celebrating V-Day just because it already happened?

House of Yes is teaming up with Little Cinema to bring you an immersive screening of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN.

Featuring ballet dancers, aerialists, dj’s, remixed video scenes and 3D projection mapping, they'll bring the movie off the screen and all up in your business.

2. Harlem Fine Arts Show @ The Riverside Church

This weekend only, the Harlem Fine Arts Show is coming to the beautiful Riverside Church!

The Harlem Fine Arts show started back in 2009, and is the largest traveling African Diasporic art show in the world.

The sale & exhibition will be open from 4pm to 11pm on Friday... snag your tix and peep some beautiful artwork!


3. Mikey Carubba & Friends perform Jagged Little Pill @ American Beauty

Try to contain your excitement, all my fellow '90s kids... we all know Alanis Morrisette's iconic album, Jagged Little Pill was one the best things to happen to the decade if not music in general.

Friday night, Turkuaz drummer Mikey Carubba, and a bunch of his cool AF musician pals are going to play through the entire album at American Beauty.

Tickets are going fast! $12 in advance and $15 at the door, and best of all a portion of the proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood


Saturday, February 18th

4. Closing Night of Carmen @ The Metropolitan Opera

Saturday is your last chance to catch the classic Georges Bizet opera, Carmen! Who doesn't love an excuse to get dressed up and go to Lincoln Center?

We won't judge you if you follow along with the subtitles, but we will judge you if you should out BRAVO! Like, chill, dude.

6. Good Samaritans @ Abrons Arts Center

See a play! This Off Off Broadway production of Richard Maxwell's critically acclaimed 'Good Samaritans' is playing now at Abrons Arts Center.

In a dining hall at a rehabilitation center, pleasure battles virtue in this urban story of an intake counselor and her patient, in what the The New York Times calls a "sugar-free version of La La Land." Now through February 25th! Brought to you by New York City Players.


7. Cupid's Undie Run


Wanna run through the city in your undies? Okay what if there's drinking involved, and it's for a good cause?

The annual Cupid's Undie Run is happening in NYC this Saturday, and all proceeds go towards The Children’s Tumor Foundation and neurofibromatosis research.

We hear the weather is going to be super nice this weekend, plus the fun-run is only a mile long, so there's really no excuse not to strip down.


Sunday, February 19th

8. The Freedom Party NYC @ Irving Plaza

Omg do you not have work on Monday because of (Not My) President's Day?! 

Then you should totally hit up The Freedom Party NYC, the city's most legendary old-school dance party, at Irving Plaza!

This is an all night rager y'all: 11pm-4am. 


9. Oscars Trivia @ Videology Bar & Cinema

Calm down, calm down. The Oscars aren't this weekend. But they are next weekend! 

You gotta prep, yo! Head to Videology Bar & Cinema in Brooklyn on Sunday night to test your Hollywood knowledge.

Questions will all be based on past Academy Award Ceremonies, and clips from the acclaimed films will be played on the bar's giant movie theater sized screens. The winning team gets a free round of drinks and a real live (Academy of Videology) Oscar!

We recommend I Am Not Your Negro, John Wick: Chapter 2, and 'Hidden Figures'. We don't recommend Fifty Shades Darker, but that's out too.
