LONG WEEKEND, YASSSS!!!
Regardless of how you feel about our current President, I think we can all agree we love a long weekend.
Whether you're having a belated Valentine's Day celebration with your honey, or want to prep for the Oscars next weekend, there is plenty to do in NYC this weekend.
And for those of you lucky enough to have the day off on Monday, there's a late night rager going down at Irving Plaza.
So grab the George Washington to your Abe Lincoln (and the Washington's and Lincoln's in your wallet), and hit the town!
Friday, February 17th
1. Little Cinema: Romeo + Juliet @ House of Yes
Hey there, star-crossed lovers. Who says you have to stop celebrating V-Day just because it already happened?
House of Yes is teaming up with Little Cinema to bring you an immersive screening of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN.
Featuring ballet dancers, aerialists, dj’s, remixed video scenes and 3D projection mapping, they'll bring the movie off the screen and all up in your business.
Stick around after the show for a free lover's party with DJ Dropkat! Maybe baby Leo and Claire Danes will show up?!
2. Harlem Fine Arts Show @ The Riverside Church
The Harlem Fine Arts show started back in 2009, and is the largest traveling African Diasporic art show in the world.
The sale & exhibition will be open from 4pm to 11pm on Friday... snag your tix and peep some beautiful artwork!
3. Mikey Carubba & Friends perform Jagged Little Pill @ American Beauty
Try to contain your excitement, all my fellow '90s kids... we all know Alanis Morrisette's iconic album, Jagged Little Pill was one the best things to happen to the decade if not music in general.
Saturday, February 18th
4. Closing Night of Carmen @ The Metropolitan Opera
Saturday is your last chance to catch the classic Georges Bizet opera, Carmen! Who doesn't love an excuse to get dressed up and go to Lincoln Center?
We won't judge you if you follow along with the subtitles, but we will judge you if you should out BRAVO! Like, chill, dude.
5. Wasabassco's House of Devereux @ Le Poisson Rouge
Embrace the contemporary side of burlesque with House of Devereux this Saturday night at (Le) Poisson Rouge! The glam-tastic evening is curated, hosted, presented by The Golden Glamazon Sydni Deveraux.
Book a ticket to see the best of the best of NYC burlesque!
6. Good Samaritans @ Abrons Arts Center
In a dining hall at a rehabilitation center, pleasure battles virtue in this urban story of an intake counselor and her patient, in what the The New York Times calls a "sugar-free version of La La Land." Now through February 25th! Brought to you by New York City Players.
7. Cupid's Undie Run
Wanna run through the city in your undies? Okay what if there's drinking involved, and it's for a good cause?
The annual Cupid's Undie Run is happening in NYC this Saturday, and all proceeds go towards The Children’s Tumor Foundation and neurofibromatosis research.
We hear the weather is going to be super nice this weekend, plus the fun-run is only a mile long, so there's really no excuse not to strip down.
Sunday, February 19th
8. The Freedom Party NYC @ Irving Plaza
Omg do you not have work on Monday because of (Not My) President's Day?!
This is an all night rager y'all: 11pm-4am.
9. Oscars Trivia @ Videology Bar & Cinema
Calm down, calm down. The Oscars aren't this weekend. But they are next weekend!
Questions will all be based on past Academy Award Ceremonies, and clips from the acclaimed films will be played on the bar's giant movie theater sized screens. The winning team gets a free round of drinks and a real live (Academy of Videology) Oscar!
10. Go to the Movies!
We recommend I Am Not Your Negro, John Wick: Chapter 2, and 'Hidden Figures'. We don't recommend Fifty Shades Darker, but that's out too.[Feature Image Courtesy itstherub.com]
