Ring In the New Year With This Awesome Midnight Run in Central Park 👟🎆🗽

When it comes to celebrating New Year’s Eve, no one throws a party quite like New York City. But if you’re looking to ditch the overcrowded bar scene and avoid the confetti-filled chaos of Time Square at all costs, we have the perfect solution for you.

This year, you can trade in your stilettos for a pair of sneakers and get a jump start on your New Year’s resolutions with a festive four-mile race. That’s right. New York Road Runners will be hosting its annual NYRR Midnight Run in Central Park on New Year’s Eve and this bucket-list run seems like the perfect way to ring in the new year.

At 10:00 p.m., NYRR will be kicking off the event with a pre-race dance party on Rumsey Playfield that promises to bump music and flashing strobe lights that are sure to get you pumped up for the race. When you finally need a break from all that dancing you can share your New Year’s resolution on NYRR’s resolution wall and snap some fun photos for your Insta. Because let’s be real, pics or it didn’t happen, am I right?

As midnight approaches, you can line up with your fellow runners at the starting point on the 72nd Street Transverse and join in on the countdown to the New Year at 11:59 pm. When the clock strikes midnight, a spectacular firework display will light up the sky and the race through Central Park’s inner loop begins.

If you can’t imagine a New Year’s Eve celebration that doesn’t involve a bit of bubbly, don’t worry. There’s going to be a cider station at the halfway point of the race-- alongside a live DJ-- where you can clink glasses with your fellow runners and get your fizzy fix. Plus, there are also going to be lighting displays along the 102nd Street Cross Drive and at the finish line to keep the party vibes going throughout the whole race.

Seriously, if you ask us, this seems a much better (and healthier) way to starting off the new year than binge drinking vodka soda and drunk texting your ex all night. Plus, the best part is that you’ll spend New Year’s Day feeling good about your running accomplishments instead of nursing a nasty hangover.

The entry fee for the NYRR Midnight Run is $60 for NYRR members or $70 for non-members and includes a race bib, a long-sleeved tech shirt, a wristband granting entrance for one guest and a surprise premium item. For race registration and more information about the event, click here!
