Get LIT! 8 Amazeballs Things Going Down in NYC This Weekend

From a Firecracker Festival to a silent dance party, there are plenty of reasons to bundle up and be outdoors this weekend!

We've rounded up just a few of the interesting and awesome things happening around NYC. First of all, it's the start of the Lunar New Year this weekend, and we've got you covered for celebrating the Year of the Rooster.

From Central Park to Bryant Park, it's a weekend of winter-tivities, with TWO winter-themed festivals!

Think you're a smarty pants? Pound some espresso and check out an all-night philosophy marathon, or a late night at the MoMA.

Whether you want to expand your mind or booze it up, grab bae or your squad and hit the town!


Friday, January 27th

1. Night at the Museum

Who doesn't love art after dark? Hit up MoMA PS1's Night at the Museum this Friday night from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m. Celebrating the Lunar New Year, the event will feature projections highlighting 25 years of firework events by famed artist Cai Guo-Qiang, and a DJ set by Sunik Kim.

The whole museum will be open to explore until midnight, with food and drink specials courtesy of M. Wells Dinette, American Juice Company, and Material Vodka.

Tickets are $17. Ben Stiller not included.


2. Legion Where?House


Explore the world of FX's newest Marvel television show, Legion, this weekend at Villain in Brooklyn. 

This free immersive art exhibit, which runs all weekend, features a series of art-installations inspired by the series' themes, including forced perspective art, a found materials installation, a light and shadow installation, a Legion key art mural, and a multimedia installation.

There will also be cocktails, and beats by DJ Hesta Prynn on Friday, and DJ Alex Merrell on Saturday. 


3. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (+ Gin & Tonics!)

Everyone's favorite 2010 graphic novel movie adaptation featuring Michael Cera is coming to Videology Bar & Cinema in Brooklyn on Friday night! With Gin & Tonics!

Movie starts at 9:30 p.m., and tickets include a free G+T. Stick around after the film! Redeem your ticket at the bar for $2 off any drink.

If only we could get rid of all our exes with a good Gin & Tonic...


Saturday, January 28th

4. Lunar New Year: New Year's Day Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival

Celebrate the Year of the Rooster at the Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival!

From 11:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Sara D. Roosevelt Park (Grand Street and Chrystie Street). There will be performances, vendors, and giveaways throughout the day, but the main Firecracker event will be at noon!

Be sure to check out the 18th Annual New York City Lunar New Year Parade & Festival next Sunday. Bring your ear plugs!


5. Winter Jam

Yay more fun free things to do on Saturday! Head to Central Park (Bandshell Area, enter at 72nd Street) for a jam-packed day of wintery activities! It won't be cold enough to blow snow like in past years, but it's still lining up to be a pretty dope event.

Highlights of the day include Arctic Golf, Ice-tivities (Ice Sculpting, Ice Slide, Ice Bowling), QUIDDITCH, a Taste NY Winter Market / Warming Hut, and more! This event is free, and goes from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

6. A Night of Philosophy and Ideas

Put on your thinking caps! It's time for an all-night marathon of philosophical debate, performances, screenings, readings, and music.

Hosted by the Brooklyn Public Library and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, this free 12-hour exchange of ideas will feature top philosophers from around the world, including Simon Critchley and Gayatri Spivak.

There will also be yoga and 1am, and music from National SawdustDoors open at the Central Library (10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn) at 7 p.m., no RSVP required.

Sunday, January 29th

7. Winter Carnival at Bryant Park

Shhh!!! It's a quiet dance party!

Head to Bryant Park this Sunday for a FREE, family friendly, dance party! Part of Bank of America's week-long Winter Carnival at Bryant Park. Bryant Park’s 3rd Annual Winter Carnival Quiet Clubbing Party will provide the headphones and have 3 DJs spinning 3 different genres live.

Dance party is from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and tickets are FREE but limited, so grab yours today! Dance like no one's listening.


8. Trivia Night at Arts & Crafts Beer Parlor
