Everyone's been relentlessly counting down the hours until that big holiday, the one that starts with a "C" and involves a lot of presents, haven't they?

There's still one thing that matters, and yet, it always seems to fall by the wayside. Yes, we're talking about New Year's Eve, the last night we'll ever have of 2015, and the first night we'll ever have of 2016.

Lots of people assign a lot of significance to New Year's Eve. They'd say that how you spend your New Year's Eve will influence how you spend the rest of your year. They even made a really, really bad movie about it and somehow drugged (no, not dragged) Robert De Niro into the mess. 

We're not sure it's quite that influential. It is just one night after all, but we still recognize there are plenty of amazing ways to spend your New Year's Eve in New York City.

So how will you spend the last night of 2015? Will you eat in a restaurant? Drink in a bar? Dance in a club? Maybe you'll even get to Times Square and watch the famous-a** ball drop.

1. Clubbing

Ah, the time-old idea: clubbing on New Year's Eve in NYC. Dancing, DJs, open bars, and in several cases, buffets and buffets of food.

Clubbing on New Year's means a dance floor packed of people dressed to the nines: we mean tuxedos, ball gowns, heels, and frills; everyone dressed to impress. 

Clubbing on New Year's means you're bound to get absolutely hammered and spend the last hours of 2015 (and the first hours of 2016) dancing, screaming lyrics, and sweating.

Of course, all the hottest clubs are throwing parties with all the hottest DJs. There's a party at Marquee with DJ Chuckie, PH-D Terrace, Queen of the Night, and Tao Downtown. 

DJ Rudimental and Future will perform at Pier 36, and The Chainsmokers, Nicky Romero, and Travis Scott will perform at Pier 94.

2. Times Square

If you've never stood in Times Square to watch the ball drop, maybe you should try. Wait, wait, just hear us out, okay?

Sure, you'll have to stand for hours without the reprieve of a bathroom or any rest, but it is the most high-profile New Year's event in the whole country, if not the world. So there's something to be said for that, isn't there?

Every year in Times Square, there are one million in-person viewers to watch the notorious ball drop, millions more spectating on TV, counting down to midnight in their living rooms, and billions watching worldwide.

Like we said, high profile. There will be plenty of famous-ass performers, including Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Demi Lovato, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth. This event is not to be taken lightly.

If you want to be near the action, you'll need to be early. If you can't get there early, try to get as close as you can to the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue-- that's where the sound system will be set up.

3. Community exercise

We totally relate to this idea. The wholesome, productive concept of skipping your hangover and starting the year off in an empowering way.

If your New Year's resolution was to drink less, maybe, or do things that make you feel confident and successful, maybe you should actually do it this year. Say no to pouring an entire fifth of vodka into your face, and say yes to the thrill of endorphins.

There are several opportunities for this empowerment we speak of. There's the Times Up New Year's Eve Ride, where you'll be able to ride into 2016 on your bike or a pair of skates from Washington Square Park to Central Park.

There's the Midnight Run in Central Park, where you'll start at 5k at midnight while fireworks explode overhead. There's also an 11:30 p.m. yoga class at Saint Mark's Place Yoga to the People.

4. Bars

You could always participate in the New Year's Eve Pub Crawl. It's probably the best way to guarantee yourself entry to all the hottest bars in the East Village. 

Registration for the New Year's Eve Pub Crawl only costs $20, and opens up your NYE world to all kinds of drink deals, including $3 draft beers and half off mixed drinks and cocktails. The crawl starts at Bar None, and will galavant through the East Village all night long.

If that's not what you're feeling, make sure you think ahead. Most bars will require pre-purchased tickets for admittance on the evening of New Year's Eve.

Turtle Bay will offer a 5-hour open bar for $70, Tavern 29 will have a 5-hour open bar for $80, Ainsworth Midtown's 5-hour open bar costs $90, Johnny Utah's costs $70, and The Headless Horseman's open bar party costs $80.

Entrance to Pour House costs $15, while their open bar costs $65. General admission at 13th Step costs $15. If you're going to spend your New Year's Eve dancing, drinking, and having a general blast at a bar, make sure you look into that bar's New Year's Eve party options.

5. Apartment parties

There are those who say that if you're not attending an apartment party in NYC, you should get out of the city.

We're not any of those people, but we will say that attending a New Year's Eve party at one of your friend's apartment is a solid way to ring in the New Year. 

Why is this such a solid way to party? Well, at your friend's apartment, drinks are free, you won't have to wait in a half hour line for the bathroom, and you're much more likely to wind up kissing someone at midnight who you actually know.

If you've been invited to a New Year's Eve party at someone's apartment in the city, put it high on your consideration list. Some New Yorkers swear by apartment parties as the best way to spend New Year's Eve in the city.

6. Fireworks

Fireworks are the manifestation of festivity. They're the excitement of a New Year made external. So why wouldn't you want to spend the Eve of the New Year gaping at colorful explosives popping off in the sky?

This year, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams will be hosting the free firework show in Grand Army Plaza at 11 p.m. on New Year's Eve. There will also be live entertainment by DJ C, the Brooklyn Mash It Up Band, and hot chocolate, should you decide to attend the light show at Grand Army Plaza. 

There will also be a free fireworks show at Belvedere Castle in Central Park starting at 11:45 p.m..

This fireworks show will include a dance party, and a potluck style feast. So bring food and drinks to share!

7. Restaurants

Plenty of restaurants are offering stellar New Year's Eve deals. 

If you love food, if your heart pounds over a good, well-prepared dish, why deprive yourself? Why not spend the last hours of 2015 doing exactly what you love?

We thought you'd agree. 

' La Cerveceria will offer four courses and a two-hour open bar for $125 per person. 1 Vizio will offer a three-course dinner with beer and wine for two hours. At Aroma Kitchen and Wine Bar they'll offer a special New Year's Eve menu for $85, which includes wine pairing and a midnight toast.
