Target's new Wonderland is all the astonishment we've come to expect from the mega-chain.
Part toy store, part holiday playground, and completely bursting with festivity, Target's Wonderland is absolutely jaw-dropping. It's got a Frozen castle, a racetrack, and a hands-on drone testing station. Essentially, it's a must-visit for this holiday season.
Located in the Meatpacking District, its 16,000-square-feet contain a store, a holiday playground, and plenty of opportunity to feel like a kid again, which, amidst all the magic and stress of the holiday season, we could all use, right?
So what else is at the Wonderland, you're wondering? Oh, nothing much. Just a giant etch-a-sketch, a Christmas tree made out of 320 green foam Hulk Hands, the S.S. Free Shipping LEGO pirate ship from Target's holiday commercials, and so much more.
It'll also merge the physical and digital shopping experience into, well, one experience. Right when you enter the Wonderland, you'll receive a custom lanyard and digital Radio Frequency Identification Key.
When products throughout the Wonderland store catch your eye, you can use the key to scan the item to compile a digital shopping lists.
Then, when you're ready to check out, you'll be able to purchase all the items you added to your digital list during your time wandering the store. Basically, you won't have to lug all your items around the store while you shop.
According to Business Insider, this digital shopping isn't just a fun feature for the holiday season. It's also testing ground for concepts that could become commonplace in Target.
Tracking how shoppers use the radio-frequency identification keys will also help learn how consumers move through the store.
Why? Well, because of the influx of online shopping, which has drastically reduced for physical shopping. You know, the kind where you actually go to the store. We love online shopping, of course. With a couple of clicks, we can have our items whizzing to our front doors.
Target, however, wants to find a way to entice customers to visit their physical stores.
Hey, Target, we are completely entice-able. Building a giant LEGO ship, holiday games, and activities in your Wonderland is definitely a good way to do it. We'll definitely be downtown to do our holiday shopping at your Wonderland.
Now all you have to do is build a giant LEGO ship and Frozen castles in all your stores. That's doable, isn't it?
