This time of year, New York City is a truly festive city. 

Within all this insane festivity, over-the-top holiday lights, holiday markets, and completely wild holiday bar crawls, there are some really festive hotels as well-- in case you haven't noticed. 

Whether you're looking for a place to hang your hat for a couple of days, or just get your drink on in holiday style, there are plenty of excellent hotels in NYC to do it this season. 

There are hotels with lavish, NYC-themed gingerbread house decorations, and there are hotels with some of the most stunning Christmas decor you'll ever slap eyes on.

Then, there are those fantastic hotels that are located within the thick of all of NYC's cheer, either right beside 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Center, or Bryant Park's Winter Village.

Read on to find out which hotels you can visit to get a nice, healthy dose of holiday cheer in this season. (But be sure to thank us the morning after, hangover and all.)

1. The Ritz-Carlton (50 Central Park South)

Aside from being one of NYC's fanciest, most extravagant hotels, the Ritz-Carlton in Midtown West will also dazzle this holiday season with its bright, luminous holiday cheer.

It's located right on the southern edge of Central Park West, which means it's just a quick stroll from Wollman Rink, where you can skate all your holiday stress away (or, just don't entertain any holiday stress).

At the Ritz-Carlton, you'll also be only a few blocks East from the window displays on 5th Avenue. 

Plus, the hotel's on-site restaurant offers a fixed price Christmas menu on Christmas day. It includes poached lobster, orange glazed maple leaf duck, and lemon-tangerine baked Alaska. 

If that's not festive, we don't know what is.

2. Le Parker Meridien (119 West 56th Street)

Do you love gingerbread houses? Then make sure you come check out Le Parker Meridien's yearly Gingerbread Extravaganza, which will be on display until January 4th.

Every year, the hottest NYC chefs and bakeries build one-of-a-kind, New York-themed gingerbread creations.

Have you ever seen a skyscraper gingerbread house? What about an Empire State Building gingerbread house? A Fifth Avenue gingerbread house?

We think we've made our point. These gingerbread houses are something special. Some of the top places that have concocted this year's display are Citarella, Cake Alchemy, Norma's, and Sullivan Street Bakery.

3. Bryant Park Hotel (40 West 40th Street)

Obviously, if you stay at the Bryant Park Hotel this season, you'll have the chance to be as close to the Bryant Park Winter Village as possible. That means plenty of holiday browsing, free admission ice skating, and lots of good eating.

Plus, there's that view though. It's the perfect contrast of city and park, skyscrapers and greenery. Plus, there's all that festivity radiating from that Winter Village at all times, it'll be just about as festive as you can get.

They've also got an in-hotel restaurant, Koi Restaurant, which serves Japanese Fusion-- yes, even on Christmas Day. The food at Koi is entirely delicious, and you could always get your drink on at the Cellar Bar.

Did we mention the Cellar Bar has a free happy hour for all its guests? Well, that's the case. Remember how the holidays are secretly all about drinking?

Also, a super sneaky facet of the Bryant Park Hotel is that they've got sex toys for order in the rooms, which, while festive, is not really conducive for children. Seriously, proceed with caution.

4. Waldorf Astoria (301 Park Avenue)

At the Waldorf Astoria over the holidays, you'll be instantly and comprehensively transported to some kind of Christmas wonderland of yesteryear. 

The beautiful hotel, which spans an entire city block, has been delighting its guests over the holidays since 1931. They've got giant, towering Christmas trees, berry-entwined wreaths, and handblown glass ornaments dangling from their massive Christmas trees.

They've also got thousands and thousands of sparkling lights decorating their massive lobby. We mean it when they say they go all out.

If you step foot in the Waldor Astoria's lobby this season, which you should, you'll feel like you've been instantly transported into a lavish Christmas fantasy. Plus, it's right by that famous Rockefeller Tree, so yeah, that's another plus.

5. The Pierre (2 East 61st Street)

We all know the holidays are all about who's got the best hot chocolate, and at The Pierre they've got the kind of spiked hot chocolate that'll remind you exactly what holiday cheer's about.

For the first time ever, they'll have a Spiked Haute Chocolate Bar from November 27th through January 1st.

There will be surprise gifts for children and pets beneath the tree on December 25th, with complimentary hot cider and hot chocolate for the hotel's guests on both Christmas Eve and Christmas. 

It's also located right beside those decadent 5th Avenue windows, so be sure to get out of the hotel and explore the city.
