Living and working in New York City requires a good deal of optimization. Optimize your budget, optimize your (probably) limited living space, optimize your commute, all of it.

Enter Teleport, an interactive map that helps people figure out what's the best neighborhood to rent in, given the location of your job.

Enter your home address and work address, and the site will list the most optimal places for you to move based on travel time, rent costs, and more.

Users can prioritize variables to further hone the listings. 

For example, if apartment availability is more of a concern than cost, the search can be oriented that way.

From there, the map highlights the most desirable neighborhoods and color codes them according to the degree to which a given neighborhood matches your search parameters. 

For an individual working in Midtown and currently living in Morningside Heights, the best place to move would be just a bit higher up town into Harlem, where rents are lower but the commute isn't much different. 

Hell's Kitchen is listed second due to its proximity to the job's neighborhood, but clearly much higher rent. 

Long Island City is a "younger" neighborhood, meaning the developments are newer and the rent is higher, but also a good option.

So if your two month sublet is about to expire and you need another room, definitely consult with Teleport before you lay any money down, it may save you a lot down the line.
