NYC is for Cookie: The 7 Best Cookies in New York City

We've already given you the best chocolate chip cookies in NYC. We get it, they're superstars. Nobody can withstand the draw of a gooey, melted chocolate chip cookie.

But what about the others? They aren't the only type of cookie.

Move over chocolate chip cookies! It's time for the rest of the cookie family to have it's time in the confectionary limelight.

We're tired of the traditional. We want the original! The creative! These cookie shops are serving up some of both. And they're doing it exceptionally well, which is a total drag for our waistlines, but oh well.

We've put together some of the most spectacular bakeries serving up unique, delicious cookies that aren't the traditional chocolate chip cookie.

1. Milk & Cookies (19 Commerce Street)

This little spot in the West Village is a must for any self-respecting cookie aficionado. Their "S'mores" cookie is worth a trip to this shop alone. It's a graham-flavored cookie peppered with marshmallow pieces and chocolate chips.

You also need to try their "Bacon Smack" cookie with candied bacon. It's a special cookie, so hurry up and get yours soon! They also serve their cookies as ice cream cookie sandwiches, so we'd say they're pretty much heaven on earth.

2. Schmackary's (various locations)

If you've never had a Schmackary cookie, you've been missing out. With two locations (one in Midtown and one in Brooklyn), you have ample opportunity to stop in and try one of their 65+ cookie flavors that rotate with the day of the week as well as seasonally.

We're big fans of the "Peanut Butter Cup" cookie made with peanut butter, semi-sweet chocolate, roasted peanuts, and sea salt. But you can only get it on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays. Their "Funfetti" cookie is an everyday delicious staple sugar cookie with vanilla frosting and sprinkles.

3. Milk Bar (various locations)

Heard of Momofuku or Fuku? Of course you have. This is their sister bakery, responsible for banging out crazy delicious cookies to the delight of NYC residents and visitors.

We highly recommend their "Corn Cookie."

Wait. Corn?! Yep, don't knock it until you've tried it. It's a play on cornbread baked into a deliciously sweet, buttery cookie. Their "Compost Cookie," with pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, butterscotch, and chocolate chips is also a must try for any cookie lover.

4. Glaser's Bake Shop (1670 1st Avenue)

yumalertnyc Black and white. Like my soul.

This quaint, old fashioned bakery is reminiscent of your grandma's kitchen-- if your grandma was an exceptional cook and indulged your sweet tooth on a regular basis with delicious baked goods.

Glaser's is baking up some of the most delicious "Black & White" cookies that we've ever tasted. It's also huge, so be prepared to share... or not, we won't judge. This thing of beauty is more like a small cake with a cookie-like consistency... regardless, it's amazing.

5. Ovenly (various locations)

"Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie." That's all we really need to say, really, because it's amazing. And guess what? It's vegan! You'd never guess it if you weren't aware of it because it's fluffy, rich, and delicious.

Ovenly's cookies look like they were just plopped onto a sheet tray from an ice cream scoop, as they're a mound of dough that is crispy on the outside, but soft and gooey on the inside. If you're not feeling the "Salted Chocolate Chip," try the "Chocolate Truffle Cookie." You can't go wrong.

6. City Cakes (251 West 18th Street)

srahmans3087 Best. Cookie. Ever! @citycakes #snickerdoodle #confectionperfection #cookie #nyc #bakery #yummy #getitinnow Thanks @jaywagner724 for my sweets fix! I know you'll never let me down 😁πŸͺ

Have you ever had a half-pound cookie? Maybe you should. Especially at $4.50 for a cookie the size of your face. City Cakes' "Sugardoodle" cookie that is essentially cookie nirvana. It's a culinary perfection.

If you aren't a fan of "Sugardoodles" (what are you?), try their "Killer Red Velvet" cookies. These cookies don't taste like chemicals (like some other red velvet impersonators). It's also got a surprise of cream cheese filling in the center! You can't pass that up!

7. Woops! Bakeshop (various locations)

So once you get over their delicious macarons, you need to try Woops!'s "White Chocolate Coconut Pecan Cookie." These cookies are as large as your fist, and they're as delicious as they are big.

If you're not a fan of coconut, try the "Triple Chocolate" for a rich, delicious treat! These cookies are a must for anyone with a sweet tooth.
