Each and every year, tons of people moving here. Literally. All you have to do is take a look at the ever-changing skyline of Brooklyn and Queens.

Because of that (and the ongoing gentrification debate that almost always follows), the New York State Public Service Commission plans to make 332 the newest Manhattan area code, joining 646, 917 and the OG of 'em all, 212.

646, the latest and greatest area code issued to Manhattanites, was launched way back when in 1999.

Since then, though, the demand for new phone numbers kickstarted the need for a new area code, the commission stated.

So when will the new area code be up and running, you might be asking yourself? 

Brace yourselves: April 2017.

Until then, prepare yourselves for just over a year of having to hear those old school New Yorkers reminisce about the days when there was just one area code, that good ol' 212-- which started to be used way back in 1945-- and natives even strut their stuff about having a 917 area code (which came into play in 1992).
