It's not a secret that we love our ramen here in New York City. If you're surprised by this, you clearly haven't been paying attention.

Maybe it's the savory broth, maybe it's the thick, luscious noodles, maybe it's all the vegetables, meat, and that delicious boiled egg. Whatever it is, we're pretty wild about ramen in this city.

So when we learned that the popular Japanese food chain Wagamama is finally joining the succession of beloved chains (read: Chick-Fil-A, read: Arby's) setting down roots in our city, we were way more than delighted. 

According to Eater, the London-based company will open next year at 210 Fifth Avenue (between West 26th and West 25th Streets) in a three-story, 7,000 square-foot space, overlooking Madison Square Park.

This will just be a drop in the bucket for Wagamama, which already has 140 locations across the globe. 

They're already churning out delicious, steaming noodles at four locations in Boston, but, as we said, this is the first time we'll get to experience their decadence in NYC.

What other new cuisine do we get to look forward to? 

Wagamama, which means "naughty child" in Japanese, serves a variety of Japanese-inspired foods. They've got ramen, they've got teppenyaki, they've got curries, donburi, and salads.

They've also got hot drinks, expertly crafted beers, sake and wine.

Does this news upset us on a #SaveNYC level? Well, sort of. Maybe Wagamama will steal business from beloved, local, independent ramen restaurants in NYC.

Still, though, we're never going to fully abandon our beloved, local, independently owned ramen restaurants. Asking us to is like telling us to never take stairs again since there are now elevators; a request that is, obviously, ridiculous. 

We don't feel that the chain restaurant scene in NYC is over-saturated-- yet. In fact, one more chain, especially a good one, is very welcome.
