Well, that was over pretty quick.
Following City-wide admonition, Amazon has decided to remove the incendiary advertising for their new show, The Man in the High Castle, recently wrapped on New York City subway seating illustrating Nazi and Imperialist Japanese imagery.
While again, it was promoting a work of fiction that imagines a world if the Axis powers had won WWII, again, it was a stupid move to think that nobody could possibly mind.
Mayor de Blasio was in agreement that the ads should be pulled, stating that, "While these ads may technically be within MTA guidelines, they're irresponsible and offensive to World War II and Holocaust survivors, their families, and countless other New Yorkers. Amazon should take them down."
Spokespeople for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority confirmed that the ads were supposed to run from November 15th through mid December, but will now be removed.
Say what you will about de Blasio, but we can safely add that to the list of things we're thankful for in NYC this holiday season. Of course, again, contentious ads like these really had no place on a NYC subway to begin with considering how the MTA has carried themselves as of late.
