There are a variety of movie-going experiences in and around New York City. We, like a growing number of major cities, have luxury theaters featuring plush seating that serve alcohol and entrees. And that's just one example.
Now we're in for a whole new experience though, and it's something out of a sci-fi film.
There may be a gym with an IMAX screen coming to Brooklyn.
A special permit has been filed in the name of IMAX Fit, LLC with Community Board 2 in DUMBO that would allow the company, known for its bombastically amazing film screens and surround sound systems, to open a fitness center on the first floor of 135 Plymouth Street.
The gym (the first of its kind) would be a stationary bike studio, featuring tiered rows of the popular exercise machines instead of theater seats, facing an IMAX screen.

The company's chief business development officer, Robert Lister, announced that the video played on the screen would be original content developed by IMAX and its partners.
For now, most of the Community Board is behind the project, but they'll all vote on December 9th before the project moves on to the Board of Standards and Appeals for further approval.

Currently, despite not being a residential building legally, the 200,000-square foot, former factory also houses between 50 to 60 artist studios.
James Seward, a decade-long resident, thinks the theater gym isn't a bad idea saying, "I think it's good for the neighborhood. It sounds kind of cool." We agree. It sounds amazing.
