Because Korean Food Is More Than Just Barbecue: 7 Amazing Korean Joints in NYC

Remember that time we fawned over all the amazing Korean barbecues in New York City?

Well the excellence of Korean cuisine does not, in fact, end there.

Some restaurants in NYC are whipping up dduk mandu guk to make our mouths water, yook-gae jang that makes our stomachs rumble, and kimchi chigae that warms us from the inside out.

Were you wondering where the most excellent places to grub on Korean food in NYC were?

Well, you could always stroll blindly around Flushing or Koreatown, the place in this city with the highest concentration of delicious Korean food.

Or, you could check out the list below where we've compiled all the most delicious places to get Korean food in NYC. Read on to find out what they are.

1. Jungsik (2 Harrison Street)

wheresmabelt Have to say, best ramen I've had was at Jungsik. #jungsik #jungsiknyc #chefjungsikyim #jungsikyim #nycfood #nycfinedining #nycrestaurant #nycrestaurants #food #fooding #foodphoto #foodphotos #foodphotography #michelinguide #guidemichelin #michelinrestaurant #michelinrestaurants #ramen #michelinramen

Jungskik serves amazing, delicious Korean food, and we're not saying that casually.

First of all, the actual restaurant is very beautiful. It's got this simultaneously classic and modern feel in a way that manages to blend Western and Korean design. We don't go at great lengths to talk about restaurant decor, but we are definitely feeling this place.

Plus, the octopus in ssamjang aioli is tender perfection with the slightest hint of salt. We're also all about the red snapper which is perfectly prepared to maintain its softness and moistness.

They've also got perfectly cooked scallops that are perfectly tender, and an incredibly flavorful wagyu tenderloin. Basically, Jungsik has perfect presentation and delicious flavors. They've also got some pretty excellent cocktails if you're looking to get a little buzzed.

2. Cho Dang Gol (55 West 35th Street)

Our knees get weak over the bulgogi stew at Cho Dang Gol. It's sweet, salty, and delicious. Cho Dang Gol is famous for their homemade tofu, but they've also got high-quality side dishes that we're pretty wild about. Plus, their scallion pancakes are truly something special.

Also, it's entirely affordable and sells meals for practically unheard of prices in the middle of Manhattan.

Talk to anyone who claims you have to go to Flushing to get Korean food with authentic seasoning and ingredients, and then tell them to come to Cho Dang Gol. They'll become believers, we guarantee it.

For some delicious, Korean serendipity, come to Cho Dang Gol for a delicious, after-work, Midtown meal. You won't regret it.

3. Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong (various locations)

Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong has got two locations; one in Flushing and one in Midtown.

Want a fool-proof way of pleasing three to four people? Then get the beef combo and pork jowl, plus an extra order of short ribs. You'll be completely stoked.

We're also way into the kimchi stew, marinated beef slices, and the seafood pancake. It's all so delicious. Plus, we have to shout out the steamed egg and corn with cheese which comes as a delicious complement to Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong's perfectly cooked meats.

Basically, the quality of food here is superb, and we definitely recommend coming here. They've got the highest quality meat that practically melts in your mouth, and beef tartare that, if you haven't tried, you need to like, this week.

4. Danji (346 West 52nd Street)

krnzippo Fried chicken time. #friedchicken #danji

If you want our advice on must-tries at Danji, we've got them right here for you: you absolutely must get the tofu. The bulgogi sliders are amazing, as are the kimchi trio and the fish.

Also, you've just got to try the spicy pork belly sliders. Don't even get us started on how tasty they are. Like, really, don't even get us started. Plus, the poached stable fish is totally worth writing home about. The fish is so delicate and melts right in your mouth.

Sometimes, we worry Danji might be a figment of our imaginations. How could a place this delicious, this authentic, and this well-priced be located in Times Square?

However, it is in Times Square, and it is amazing, with fantastic service to boot. You should probably also try the yellowtail sashimi. It's buttery, soft, and marinated to perfection.

5. Hanjan (36 West 26th Street)

missionchinesefood #hanjan's Korean Chinese is 👍. Thanks for the jjajangmyun @hoonikim

Could we eat the kimchi and beef brisket fried rice at Hanjan for every meal? Well, we wouldn't hate it.

At Hanjan they use top-notch, tasty ingredients. The actual restaurant and decor has a truly beautiful ambiance, with hanging lights and a dark wood finish. If you're one for aesthetics and delicious Korean food, this might be a great spot to hit on a date.

The thick noodles with pork belly and black bean sauce is really something special. It's buttery, savory, and has a very tasty hint of garlic. Plus, the noodles are divine.

We'd also have to recommend the sizzling hot bibimbap. The rice on the bottom gets crunchy from all the sizzle, which really just enhances its tastiness. Come here for entirely friendly service, Korean rice wine, and way satiating Korean cuisine.

6. Arang (161-16 Northern Boulevard - Queens)

Honestly, everything at Arang is delicious, but there are a couple things we couldn't live without. Like, for instance, the rice cakes are cooked to a perfect texture. They're firm enough to stay together, but tender enough that they break apart in your mouth when you bite into them.

We can also get way amped about any of their spicy soups, or the spicy pork cheese ddukbokki. It's got rice noodles, and hot cheesy goodness.

When people talk about how all the best Korean food is in Flushing, Arang is what they mean.

We're also pretty all about the budae jjigae and the kimchi pancake, as well as the tang sooyook. Pretty much, what we're trying to say is the food at Arang is insanely authentic and on point. You should go.

7. Bann (350 West 50th Street)

umieats The baked scallops+pine mushroom+shrimp mousse up close. Best appetizer rarely found at Korean restaurants! Bibimbap (on the background) is also super tasty. #BannNYC #BakedScallop

Bann's got a pretty lovely atmosphere, and has a fairly large space. Plus, at Bann they make an entirely delicious bim bim bap, and the seafood pa jun is packed with shrimp and calamari. The pancakes are thick and way tasty.

Also, the kimchi chigae at Bann has the right amount of spice, and a uniquely excellent flavor. Plus, their portions are huge, so make sure you come hungry.

[anad2]

They've got beer and soju if you're looking to get crunk, and the general vibe here is very trendy, and awesome for dates or social gatherings.

Also, if you're messing with dessert, make sure you check out the molten chocolate cake and the banana soju creme brulee.
