It happens everyday: New Yorkers pass the homeless without saying or doing anything to help them. And people have many good reasons to keep walking. 

New York City can be a dangerous place, and many people are intimidated by the homeless, often expecting the worst.

More rationally, there are also just a lot of people trying to play you on the streets. But one woman recently stepped above all that, and is getting recognition for a job well done.

Twenty-six year old Kay Brown noticed a barefoot homeless woman in the subway on her way home, and gave up her boots. 

Like a Cinderella of gratitude, the barefoot woman cried as she slipped into the boots that fit perfectly.

Brown continued riding the subway in a pair of thin, mix-matched socks, and even snapped a picture.

Just before she got off, a gentleman offered her a spare pair of his socks, and that made all the difference for her walk home.

She walked the 6 blocks in two pairs of socks drawing a lot of attention, weird looks, and comments, but she was happy about having done something selfless for someone in need-- regardless of the unwanted attention. 

Her post has gained hundreds of shares, and landed her on Today, where she said "I wasn't doing it for attention, but people started coming up to me saying, 'That was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.' Everybody was so kind, you want people to pass those things on..."
