Because... Thanksgiving: 6 Delicious Places for Finger-Lickin' Good Potatoes in NYC

Usually, people get pretty psyched over some french fried potatoes. They're pretty much on every menu that includes a burger, which is a lot of menus.

But what about the other types of potatoes? They definitely don't get as much love as their french fried cousins.

But they should.

Mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, scalloped potatoes... there's so many options that don't simply fall under the heading of french fried.

And you know what? We think that they deserve as much (or more) time in the limelight.

Here are some of the best NON-french fried potatoes in New York City.

1. Build Your Own from Potatopia (various NYC locations)

If you're a fan of any kind of potato, you need to learn about Potatopia. It's pretty much potato heaven. Whether you like mashed potatoes, smashed potatoes, french fries, waffle fries, or curly fries, you're in for a treat.

First, you choose your protein, then you choose one of 10 potato options (including baked, tater tots, mashed, crinkle cut fries, etc), then you choose your toppings (as many as you want), then you pick your cheese, and finally your sauce. Essentially, its a carboloading paradise.

2. Loaded Idaho Baked Potato from Hillstone Restaurant (various NYC locations)

When we've dreamt about the perfect baked potato (and trust us, we have...), it looks a lot like the "Loaded Idaho Baked Potato" from Hillstone. This thing of beauty is comes topped with a mountain of shredded cheese, crispy bacon, scallions, butter, and sour cream.

Don't even think about leaving the skins on your plate. They're crispy and delicious. Once you've devoured the fluffy, flaky interior of the baked potato, peel off the skins and enjoy. You can thank us later.

3. Pan Fried Mashed Potatoes with Truffle Oil from St. Anselm (355 Metropolitan Avenue - Brooklyn)

What's better than mashed potatoes? Nothing right? Wrong! Fried mashed potatoes are better than just measly old mashed potatoes. Even better? The "Pan Fried Mashed Potatoes with Truffle Oil" from St. Anselm in Brooklyn.

These creamy mashed potatoes have a crispy brown crust. As if that wasn't enough, the mashed potatoes are smothered in delicious truffle oil. It's basically like the best version of a hash brown that you've ever had in your life, but creamier.

Baked potatoes are great. Mashed potatoes are great. Mashed potatoes IN a baked potato??? Mind. blown.

The "Stuffed & Crisped" potatoes from Rotisserie Georgette is comprised of a baked Idaho potato filled with gruyere mashed potatoes. Don't mind us, we're just drooling over our keyboards.

5. Lobster Mashed Potatoes from Christos Steak House (4108 23rd Avenue - Queens)

dialectable Read a lot about this #dish before going to @christossteakhouse and it certainly lived up to the acclaim - the #lobster #mashedpotatoes were fluffy and full of flavor, particularly from garlic and basil. Loved the presentation of being served inside of the lobster. In the back is the sauteed #spinach with feta.

Imagine a place with ten options of mashed potatoes. Can you see it? It's a beautiful place. That place would be Christos Steak House in Queens. Apart from the classic, creamy mashed potato version, Christos has options like "Roasted Garlic," "Goat Cheese Basil Balsamic Reduction," and "Basil Pesto."

But if you want incredible mashed potatoes, you need to order the "Lobster Mash." Smothered in garlic, butter, basil, and of course heaps of lobster, you won't be able to stop eating it. On top of that, it's served in a lobster shell, which looks too pretty to eat... well, almost.

6. Mashed Potatoes from The Meatball Shop (various NYC locations)

The "Mashed Potatoes" from The Meatball Shop has developed a bit of a cult following, and we can understand why. Meatballs aren't the only thing that The Meatball Shop does well.

With flecks of potato skin peppering the mash, these potatoes are hearty, buttery, and delicious even without a tender meatball topping them.
