The New York Taxi & Limousine Commission has recently released data on every public taxi trip between 2009 to 2015, and the jury is in: New Yorkers have taken a lot of cab rides over the last six years.

Usually such data wouldn't be particularly thrilling, unless you're a cab driver looking for good territory.

But software developer Todd W. Schneider used the information to create a series of stunning maps of New York City, the most impressive of which illuminates taxi drop off locations all across the City, in two different colors.

In the map below, dots represent drop off points, and brighter dots mark locations where drop offs happen more frequently. The more people get dropped off at a location, the brighter the dot is.

For anyone who's been in NYC longer than a week or two, it should be no surprise that the brightest points on the map are Lower, Midtown, and the Upper East Side of Manhattan. 

And let's not forget the airports. Maybe the brightest points on the map are the airports themselves. 

As far as the outer boroughs go, they're illuminated in green for a reason. Green data points represent drop offs from green taxis, those that mainly service all the boroughs besides Manhattan.

So take a look around the map. Do you recognize corners where you've been dropped off frequently? If so, then you're part of that shining light!
