So far, New York City has been experiencing some pretty mild weather for the season. Meteorologists are holding El Niño accountable, the phenomenon near the equator that pretty much messes up the entire world's normal weather patterns.

But, just to be safe, the Department of Sanitation is thinking ahead, and aiming to line the pockets of New Yorkers in the process.

DOS will be hiring per diem workers at $13.50 per hour this winter to clear sidewalks, crosswalks, fire hydrants, and bus stops after large storms. 

Plus, overtime pay is $20.25, so if you're stuck out there in the cold for too long, at least you'll be pulling in bank.

Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia said in a statement that it will be "vital to keeping the City moving." 

Applicants are to visit any one of the 60 local sanitation garages around the City between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, or one of the four Department of Transportation locations:

1. The Flatbush Yard (2900 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn)
2. The Bronx Yard (Moshulu Ave & Broadway, the Bronx)
3. Kew Loop Yard (78-88 Park Drive East, Queens)
4. Harper Street Yard (31-11 Harper Street, Queens)

Anyone interested in the gig must be 18 years or older and "capable of performing heavy physical labor." 

To register for the job, you must bring your social security card, two forms of ID (with a copy of each), and two small photos. Go ahead, snow shoveling may not have paid off since you were in grade school, but you're never too old to make a buck.
