Okay, so things have been kind of a bummer lately. We've gone through daylight savings, so it's not only colder in New York City, but it gets darker way sooner.

Also, of course we can't help but be way bummed about the horrific acts of terrorism that've been perpetrated against innocent civilians all over the world: in Paris and Beirut last week and Kenya in April.

What we came here to say, though, is stop getting down and out, NYC. 

There's always going to be sad stuff, and yet there's plenty that we should be happy about in this city. It's about time we acknowledged it. Being thankful for the good stuff is the first step to happiness.

So we're about to come in hot with everything we should be happy about in NYC. We hope it cheers you up.

1. There's now an app where you can borrow puppies

What could make us happier than puppies?

Let's here a collective nothing. Puppies are hands down the happiest ones in the entire city. Whenever we're having a bad day, we're walking down the street in a grumpy mood, we're bound to run into a puppy wagging its tail, panting with excitement to be out in the world.

Sadly, so many of us don't have puppies because we can't afford them, or because don't have time for them. So instead we just stare longingly after dogs in the street and creep around dog parks.

However, this will go on no longer. There's an app for that, and it's called Bark'N'Borrow. It lets you rent puppies in NYC. Does it get any better than that? We're pretty sure it doesn't.

2. There's a ton of art in this city

They don't call us the cultural center of the world for nothing.

In fact, they call us the cultural center of the world for everything: because we're constantly surrounded by art. We're serenaded by buskers on our walk to the subway, we enjoy free concerts on the subway, and we walk past gorgeous murals adorning the city's walls to get to work.

3. We've got beautiful parks

It's not too freezing to enjoy the parks yet! Chase your winter blues away by taking a stroll through a park on your way to work. Spend your lunch break munching on a sandwich on the High Line.

Rent a CitiBike on your day off and try pedaling around Central Park. It'll really enhance your NYC experience. Don't forget to wear a jacket.

Plus, we've got two sets of good news when it comes to parks: the first is that there's a Lowline preview called The Lab, and it's free and open to the public all winter on weekends from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

So even when it's cold outside you'll be able to stroll amongst trees, plants, and reappropriated, underground sunlight.

Plus, NYC just launched a $40 million redesign plan for our parks. You thought they were beautiful already? Just wait. They're about to get away more beautiful.

4. Thanksgiving is coming up

So it's a perfect opportunity to be grateful for everything we've got in this city: our amazing opportunities, breathtaking river views, and the chance to bump into a celebrity on a Tuesday night.

Like, celebrities are constantly bopping in and out of this city so if we like a comedian or a musician, odds are we'll have the chance to go see them live. Treating yourself to a concert or stand-up comedy show sounds like a pretty good way to celebrate Thanksgiving to us.

Plus, there's never been a better excuse than Thanksgiving to chow down on all the delicious food we can think of, and trust us, in this city we've got plenty.

The real reason we're so stoked about Thanksgiving? That four-day weekend is where it's at. We should all be happy to have the opportunity for some relaxation and, as we said, lots of eating.

5. We finally have a Chick-Fil-A

Okay, we know some New Yorkers are mad about Chick-Fil-A, but whatever. Because we'll never, ever relinquish our love for our bodegas no matter how delicious Chick-Fil-A gets.

Still, we've been yearning for that amazing, white meat, crispy chicken for years. Now, we finally have the chance to get it. Whenever we want.

What's even better about the Chick-Fil-A situation? Well, the fervor is sort of fading. The line is getting shorter ... sort of. It still stretches around the block, but at least it stretches less around the block than it did when Chick-Fil-A first opened.

6. Holiday cheer is on the up

How can we be sad when that Rockefeller Tree is sparkling, when Park Avenue is twinkling, when people are twirling free laps on the Bryant Park Ice Rink?

The answer is that we can't. We can't be sad while we're walking through a light adorned East Village while "Oh Holy Night" blasts through our earphones. 

Want to get even more cheered up? Treat yourself to a holiday show. You can't pretend to not be at all touristy all twelve-months of the year. Sometimes you've just got to give in and get tickets to The Nutcracker or the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

We guarantee you won't be grumpy at either of these enchanted shows.

7. You no longer have to hire a broker to find an apartment

Remember how moving in NYC used to suck, because you'd have to spend thousands of dollars paying a broker?

Remember how you couldn't possibly move in the winter, because hustling around, looking at apartments in the freezing cold sounded like a complete bust?

All of these woes are now in the past. There's now an app where you can view apartments remotely (yes, that means from your bed) and it's called Oliver. Also, you don't have to hire a broker to see these apartments. Turns out, Oliver is totally free.

If that doesn't lift your spirits we don't know what will.
