We're pretty darn particular about our pizzas in NYC. There's just something so inherently New York about pizza.
Try and dole out a deep dish pie and call it pizza, and we might have some pretty choice words about it. Casserole, for instance.
But top a flat crust with some Nutella and fruit and call it dessert and people go nuts.
Dessert pizzas are pretty much the perfect dessert.
It's sharable by design. You can layer it with any number of toppings. The only utensils you need are your hands (opposable thumbs help) and napkins. Plus, it's just plain fun to eat.
If this notion seems strange to you, you've obviously never tried this delicious rendition of a NYC staple. Sure, it's got no tomato sauce or mozz, but it's got chocolate, fruit, nuts, marshmallows, and basically anything you want.
Plus, you can have your traditional NYC slice before digging into a slice of these pizzas for dessert. What could be more New York than that?
1. Orange You Paulie Gee's Dessert Pizza from Paulie Gee's (60 Greenpoint Avenue - Brooklyn)
Along with Paulie Gee's other two dessert pizzas, "Apple Cider Caramel" and "Ricotta Be Paulie Gee," Paulie Gee's has a lock down on unique dessert pizzas in NYC.
The most interesting and delicous dessert pizza that Paulie Gee's has to offer is the "Orange You Paulie Gee's Dessert Pizza." This baby includes candied orange, anisette cream drizzle, fennel fronds, and powdered sugar.
2. Nutella Pie from Pie by the Pound (124 4th Avenue)
What's pretty much the most popular topping to put on a dessert pizza? The most popular Italian chocolate hazelnut spread of course!
Pie by the Pound's "Nutella Pie" is topped with Nutella, mascarpone, and strawberries or bananas. They also offer an "Apple" dessert pie, served with apples and cinnamon.
3. S'mores Pizza from L'asso Pizza (192 Mott Street)

Imagine this: a crispy, crunchy pizza dough topped with a loving amount of chocolate underneath a layer of lightly toasted, melted marshmallows.
Can you imagine that? No? Well, get yourself on over to L'asso Pizza and taste it for yourself. It's the perfect treat to share with friends on a cooler night.
4. Ti Amo Nutella Pizza from Tony's Pizzeria & Restaurant (443 Knickerbocker Avenue)
Good news, New Yorkers! Most dessert pizzas you can only get by the pie. But what about if you only want a slice? You're in luck! Tony's Pizzeria & Restaurant sells their "Ti Amo Dessert Pizza" by the slice for only $4.
Sure, sure, that may be a bit more (considering we love our $1 slices), but it's topped with Nutella, strawberries and marshmallows. It's pretty much the best thing since pizza by the slice.
,5. Pizza con Nutella from San Matteo Pizza & Espresso Bar (1739 2nd Avenue)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Thankfully, San Matteo Pizza knows not to mess with a Nutella pizza. Their "Pizza con Nutella" is a basic dessert pizza with a Nutella spread.
But, then again, how fun is that? They also offer "Panzerotto Nutella," which is essentially just a mini Nutella calzone. Yes, please!
6. Chocolate Chunks Pizza from Max Brenner Chocolate Bar & Restaurant (841 Broadway)
You fancy? You need to introduce yourself to Max Brenner's "Chocolate Chunk Pizza." It has melted milk and white chocolate chunks with two toppings of either crunchy hazelnut bits, bananas, peanut butter, or roasted marshmallows.
Or, you can do "the works," and get all of the toppings. We'd recommend that. Because more is better.
7. Chocolate Pizza from Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bar (17th Avenue South)
So here's the deal. You need to get a couple of your favorite people together, and get your booties over to Ayza. Once you're there, you need to order a "Chocolate Pizza," with hazelnut, strawberries, and bananas.
You also need to split the "Twenty-Layer Crepes Cake Brulee," which is a creme brulee style cake with 20 layers of crepes and whipped cream. And when we say split it, we mean just have your friends there so you don't look lame stuffing your face with two orders of dessert.
