Most New Yorkers spend a lot of time on the subway, and not because we're in love with trains, rats, or subway creatures. We're trying to get where we need to go in the fastest way possible. 

In order to get there, we shuffle our way through crumbling stations that are now more dangerous and crowded than we're used to. While the details of MTA's capital plan funding have slowly trickled out, we have something else to rejoice about underground.

Wi-Fi is coming to every subway station in New York City, and we couldn't be more pumped!

The initiative is headed by the MTA and Transit Wireless, which has been working for years already to bring Wi-Fi and wireless service to stations across the City. 

The most recent development was announced last Thursday, as Bronxites will now enjoy Wi-Fi at every station in the borough, with wireless service coming soon as well.

Governor Cuomo stated, "More and more, access to high speed internet is a necessity, and many New Yorkers cannot afford to be blacked out while trying to get from point A to point B."

The seven-phase program to equip our underground transit hubs with wireless communication services is well under way, with phase five already beginning and due to bring wireless services to the first Brooklyn stations in the project by mid 2016. 

While it's ironic that anything having to do with NYC subway is running ahead of schedule, New Yorkers are already enjoying the fruits of Transit Wireless's labors.

Transit Wireless CEO Bill Bayne announced recently that the campaign is due to be completed a year ahead of schedule.

He also mentioned, "There are 279 underground stations in this network, we have 146 completed today."
