Many New Yorkers have run into some trouble on the streets of the City at one time or another, especially theft and assault. It's unfortunately all too common to hear about items like bicycles being snatched from street side racks, or even right out from under the riders.

But hoverboards? That's a new one to us. 

So police are seeking suspects who robbed three teenagers of their hoverboards in Crown Heights recently on October 29th around 9:30 p.m.

The three boys, aged between 14 and 15, were riding down Eastern Parkway near Brooklyn Avenue when a trio of older men asked to see their hoverboards.

When the boys declined, it's alleged that the three men punched the teenagers and took their hoverboards, valued at around $1,700 total. 

According to police, the men fled eastbound on a Eastern Parkway service road after loading the hoverboards into a grey minivan.

While it may sound like a futuristic gizmo, these hoverboards have been growing in popularity, especially this year with the anniversary of Back to the Future and the related buzz regarding futuristic products many grew up expecting to be a reality by 2015. 

The newly popular rides run between $200 to $1000 and have been popping up all over New York City and beyond for some months.
