King of the Concrete Jungle? This Badass Hawk Literally Swooped in for the Kill on a NYC Pigeon

In New York City, animals are constantly on the loose. We've had pizza rats, milkshake squirrels, and even donut rats.

On the whole, we here in America generally agree that hawks are amongst the most badass. We might only love the killer Bald Eagle more, at least when it comes to birds of prey.

But we don't see too many of those majestic killers in and around New York City, since such avian hunters usually require a more rural habitat.

(Although with all of the rats in this city, it's surprising that we don't have more owls, hawks, and eagles swooping in on our dumpsters... however, we digress.)

So it was extremely epic when a bunch of people witnessed a hawk swoop in for the kill on a pigeon at West 10th Street and West 4th Street this past Friday.

Now, it's worth mentioning that abusing the animals of NYC's ecosystem is frowned upon. Seriously, nobody's supporting the mistreatment of pigeons, because that's not ok.

But when a hawk does it, it's awesome because they're literally built for that. And it's all apart of the circle of life, right? (You know, real-life Lion King and all that).

This entire ordeal went down near a Citi Bike station, where a crowd gathered around to gawk at the hawk before it escaped to a nearby fire escape with its bloody prey, leaving a trail of feathers.

Now take a look at the photos below. It might be the only time you see a hawk just hanging out on a NYC sidewalk. On top of a dead pigeon.
