Did you know the Queens Midtown Tunnel opened seventy five years ago today? 

That's right, construction first started in 1936, but President Franklin Roosevelt didn't open the tunnel to New Yorkers and everyone else until November 15th, 1940. 

Not too long ago, the MTA released an impressive batch of vintage photographs which show the opening of this tunnel (which has since been used for more than one billion trips between Manhattan and Queens), and the folks over at Curbed NY recently helped us to rediscover these amazing photos. 

Now check out the cream of this old-school crop below... pretty crazy how much things have changed nowadays, right?
