Thanksgiving is a day for us to reflect on everything that we are grateful for, and like any Holiday special on TV will tell you, we forget this just about every single year.
With Thanksgiving coming up this month, we wanted to highlight some great places to give back to the community here in New York City.
Let's not forget about those who are less fortunate because one act of kindness can inspire others to do the same. Plus, volunteering can be a rewarding experience in itself.
Keep in mind that there are plenty of ways in which you can help contribute all year-round from donating at your local church or assisting at a senior center. But for now, we've wrapped up 7 opportunities for you to go out and volunteer this Thanksgiving in NYC.
1. Citymeals-on-Wheels (355 Lexington Avenue)
City Meals-on-Wheels is one of the great organizations around the country. This program provides nearly 2 million meals to the elderly of New York City each year, and it has achieved on alleviating many families during devastating events such as Hurricane Sandy.

2. The Bowery Mission (227 Bowery)

Since 1879, The Bowery Mission has been serving those in need. The Bowery Mission will be serving more than 10,000 meals to all those located in the 5 boroughs during the week of Thanksgiving.
Volunteers will be able to serve guests a warm dinner and a blessing bag filled with generous items including winter clothes and hygiene products.

3. Feeding NYC

For 14 years, Feeding NYC has been serving families in New York City.
More than 3,000 meals are hand delivered each year to families in need.

Generally all of the dinners are delivered to the families who are affiliated with Jewish Federation, Catholic Charities, Women in Need and City Harvest.

4. New York Cares (65 Broadway)
New York Cares came into fruition when a group of friends decided to come together in order to take action for the social issues that were prevailing during the 1980s in NYC.
This program is one of the largest organizations supporting 13,000 nonprofits, city agencies, and public schools.

,5. Food Bank for New York City (39 Broadway)

For more than 30 years, the Food Bank for New York City has vigorously made efforts to put an end to hunger.
Food Bank for New York City provides approximately 64 million free meals per year throughout all the 5 boroughs.

6. God's Love We Deliver (166 6th Avenue)
The mission of God's Love We Deliver is cooking and delivering meals for men, women and children living with serious illnesses such as cancer and AIDS/HIV.
They are in need of volunteers who will help prepare, cook, and deliver meals.

7. City Harvest (6 East 32nd Street)
For more than 30 years, City Harvest has been serving the less fortunate. More than 10,000 individuals have donated their time and service in volunteering.
