Remember the three-eyed fish, Blinky, Bart Simpson (you know, from The Simpsons) caught back in the day? Well, supposedly a man recently caught a similarly mutated triclops catfish in the Gowanus Canal.

Now, it's not outside the realm of possibility to pull a mutated anything out of that seriously polluted superfund canal-- but a three-eyed fish? For real?

Probably not. NYU biology professor Richard Borowsky told the NY Post, "It looks like someone stuck a piece of paper on this [fish] to make it look like a third eye."

Video of the sketchy catfish, now being called "Brooklyn Blinky," surfaced a couple of days ago, and ever since, it's been a series of the Simpsons jokes and hoax claims, which it probably is.

The Gowanus Canal, potentially soon to be home to the historic ocean-liner USS United States  (provided funding can be put in place), may be on the upswing.

The plan is to redesign the interior of the enormous ship into a maritime school, gym, office spaces, restaurants and an entertainment complex. That's all part of an overall effort to clean up and redevelop the Canal area. There's even a dredging proposal to remove all the muck at the canal's floor.

Check out the video below. Maybe it's real, maybe it's fake, but again, anything mutated coming out of the Gowanus Canal doesn't seem like such an impossibility.
