Everyone needs a break from the city every now and then.
And whether that break comes in the form of a weekend trip upstate or a stint in another city, the return to New York City can be a bit jarring.
The change of scenery, however lengthy, was hella refreshing and you're not quite prepared to be slapped in the face with the realities of living here.
Yes, there are things you've missed about NYC, but there are also a few things you definitely haven't missed.
1. The prices

Nothing dampens your first brunch back in NYC quite like realizing that you've just spent more on your drink than you did on entire meal when you were out of town.
So, you drown your sorrows in another mimosa, and another, and the vicious cycle continues.
2. The commute

In the sleepy New England town where you've been spending your long weekend, all you have to do is hop in the car in order to reach your desired destination.
Your commute to work in the city, however, involves two trains, a bus, a 6 block walk, and superb crowd maneuvering skills.
It's just so exhausting.
3. The crowds

Humans. Everywhere. No matter what time of day.
It makes it very difficult to accomplish even the simplest task.
You've resorted to doing your grocery shopping at 9 p.m. on a Friday in the hopes of avoiding the massive crowds at Trader Joe's, but even then you still find yourself squished against a shelf of organic cheeses in the checkout line as herds of fellow shoppers attempt to squeeze past you.
4. The noise

When you first left NYC, the newfound quiet seemed eerie; almost unsettling. But after getting used to it, the unrelenting din of the city is a bit of a shock to the system upon return.
How does anyone get any sleep in this town?
,5. The lack of space

Your limbs were once able to live freely, taking up as much room as they please, but alas, those days are long over.
You know you're home when a single train ride causes you to experience symptoms of early onset osteoporosis.
6. The walking

20 blocks once seemed like nothing, but you find yourself in serious pain after wandering around the city with friends.
You are now forced to rebuild all of the walking stamina you had built upon moving here.
Great.
7. The creatures

You thought you were desensitized to the many grotesque vermin that reside in NYC, but even a brief trip away has made you realize just how absurd it is that you deal with these creatures on a daily basis.
Nonetheless, you, just like the cockroaches you thought you had killed, just keep on coming back.
