If you haven't heard, vacant lots on either side of the Third Avenue Bridge were purchased for millions of dollars this past summer. 

Now, according to Welcome2TheBronx, plans have been filed to build three 25-story residential towers in the vacant spaces.

101 Lincoln Avenue was purchased for $32 million last November, and is planned to be the building ground of a 784,176-square-foot, 25-story tower. 

It will have a commercial ground flood and 826 residential units.

Across the Third Avenue Bridge ramp, 2401 Third Avenue will become the site of another tower. It was purchased for $26 million last January, and if actualized, the tower will stretch 25-stories tall, and will be 344,736-square feet. 

It will also house both commercial and residential spaces, with 370 residential units.

We're sad to report the news that, so it seems, no neighborhood is safe from gentrification anymore. 

The developer of this third tower is Cheskel Schwimmer.

This third tower will be constructed at 198 East 135th Street, on the same block as 2401 Third Avenue. The property sold in May for $15,4700 in May. It'll house 465 residential units, ground floor commercial space, and will span 352,543-square-feet.

Again, this third tower will stretch 25-stories into the sky.

The towers' developers have all submitted applications to the NYC Department of Buildings. We're not entirely convinced these applications will be accepted as they all claim the properties aren't located on tidal wetlands when, in fact, they're all located on tidal wetlands.

Still, and practically needless to say, if all these applications are approved, the landscape of the South Bronx will be irrevocably altered.

The current real estate market in the area is dominated by NYCHA housing, and 61% of the population receives public assistance.

The new towers will be constructed within the Special Harlem River Waterfront District, and will be cordoned off from the rest of the population by the Major Deegan Expressway.

It's an unfortunate testament to our climate of capitalism that money is being poured into the construction of still more luxury towers instead of the better schools and health care the South Bronx desperately needs, but at least the skyline will look better... right?
