In spite of the fact that the North triumphed over the South in the Civil War (or as some southerners still call it, "the War of Northern Aggression,"), the South has consistently beaten us on another front.
Barbecue. The South reigns supreme.
New York City is known for a lot of things, but having spectacular BBQ or pulled pork sandwiches just isn't one of those things.
We Yankees have never had time for slow smoking, the intricate flavors of dry rubs vs. wet rubs, or whether white sauces are more flavorful than red BBQ sauces.
Lucky for us, some Southerners have decided to call our great city, "home," and have brought with them their pulled pork expertise.
These are the best spots in NYC for some excellent pulled pork sandwiches (in no particular order).
1. Pork Slope (247 5th Avenue - Brooklyn)

No, that's not the hipster beer, it's a sandwich with pulled pork, pork belly, and chow relish.

,5. Waterfront Ale House (540 2nd Street)
If you're surprised to find this gastropub on here, then you've never tasted the food. The Waterfront Ale House serves up amazing craft beers and excellently prepared BBQ from meat they smoke on the premises.
