7 Reasons You Should Absolutely Fall in Love with a New Yorker

After we saw that soul-crushing The New York Times' map which proved New Yorkers are statistically less likely to get married than, well, pretty much anyone in the country, we decided to interject with our own thoughts on the situation.

We'd like to beg to differ, because we think we're actually pretty lovable folks.

We think we can convince you to date us. Though, we don't think we should actually have to do any convincing. We think our awesomeness pretty much speaks for itself.

Okay, getting us worked up is absurdly easy, like we have no patience for people who stop in front of us on the sidewalk and if you get on the subway before we get off we might punch you in the face, but otherwise, we do have some pretty excellent traits.

We're funny, we're driven, and maybe we're not the best at cooking --but at least we're very good looking, right?

Read on to find out 7 reasons why you should definitely date a New Yorker.

1. We're accepting

The whole point of that Times map is that the more liberal your city, the less likely you are to get married.

So the whole point here is that people who are less likely to be influenced by conservatism, and external pressures to live a certain type of lifestyle, are the ones who are less likely to marry.

We think that makes us pretty awesome, though, doesn't it? Abiding by a liberal ideology doesn't mean we're lame, lonely spinsters. It means we believe in equality.

It means we're much more likely to get to know someone and decide whether we like them based on how we feel when we hang out with them, rather than judging them on their demographics or ethnicity.

New Yorkers are open minded rockstars, and you'd be lucky to date one.

2. We pursue our dreams

sublimefinds Good night! Hoping for a jaunt to NYC in my dreams x

Okay, okay, as lame and canned of a response as this sounds, most of us live here because we had some notion that we could succeed by pursuing our passion, by chasing after the thing that sets our soul on fire.

That's why so many of us are artists, poets, dancers, singers, and actors. It's why there are so many musicians rocking out at so many NYC nightspots. It's why we have so many open mic nights for comedy, fiction, poetry, and music at so many NYC bars.

We go after what we want here. If we didn't, we'd never be making it in this city. So if we want to date you, we might just go after you with the same fervor we went after our jobs. Which is pretty effin' intense. Don't sign up if you can't handle it.

3. We're talented

Uh, no one calls NYC "the cultural capital of the world," because the like the way it sounds. They do it because New Yorkers are serious all-stars.

We have all the best stuff here. We have three of the ten best restaurants in the country, for one.

[anad2]

We attract architects who design the most gorgeous skyscrapers in the solar system, subway performers who rock our socks off, and we've even got Taylor Swift (she lives in TriBeCa, haven't you heard?)

NYC is full of people who are really, really good at what they do. So that means we'd be good at dating too, right? Right.

4. We're resourceful

We mean, we have to be resourceful, don't we? Since our apartments are way smaller and way more expensive than the apartments of our contemporaries, we've had to figure out how to make them work.

Plus, let's not even get into how expensive our rent is. Here's a hint. It's super expensive. Like, so expensive that we can't even talk about it for too long without crying.

So we've got to make do. We've got to live our lives in smaller living spaces with smaller budgets. How have we coped? Well, we've basically developed the resourcefulness of a ninja.

You don't have room for something? Just get high risers and store it under your bed. You can't afford something? Just sell your clothes or get your hair cut by a student stylist. Seriously, we have that whole "being resourceful" thing on lock.

5. We're diverse

Everyone on the map who's "most likely to get married" before 26 are also all from pretty homogenous communities.

In NYC, that's clearly not the case. We're the most linguistically diverse city in the world, and we often hear as many as three different languages while walking to the grocery store.

[anad]

We might even wind up conversing in two languages before we get to work in the morning.

Remember that whole "we're open minded" thing we discussed? Yeah, we get all amped up when we're learning about cultures we didn't grow up in. So, we'd love to listen to your stories, is our point.

6. We can get you into museums

We've got that dope museum hook up, if you haven't heard. So if you date us, you won't have to buy your way into the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Museum of Natural History.

On us, you'll get to see a dinosaur skeleton or Starry Night (it's at the MoMa). Or maybe date a New Yorker who's got that' idNYC pass, and they'll get you into museums, zoos, aquariums, and gardens.

Basically, you'll find your life extremely improved if you date one of us, and you'll have much more interesting things to do.

7. Two words: dollar slices

That's right. If you date one of us, we're probably much more likely to buy you pizza than if you date someone from practically anywhere else.

Not only do we have the most delicious pizza in the nation, but we can also get it whenever we want, for just four quarters.

[anad2]

Can you buy anything with four quarters these days? Well, we can buy water and coffee from our super chill street cart guys, but we're not sure if anyone else in America can buy pizza or their morning coffee for a dollar a pop.

So, we're pretty sure you should date us. We'll probably buy you pizza.
