The amount of money flowing around New York City on any given day is astonishing, especially if you're talking money that's not changing hands physically-- stock market money, banking money, property deals.
The island of Manhattan kind of exists in multiple ways at once. It exists as it appears right now, and it exists in some weird future state, where whatever's been approved, funded, acquired permits for, etc appears real to the economy of the City.
The point is, lots of things that haven't even been built are very real on paper somewhere, and the people who shuffle those papers hold the keys to the future of the borough.
So it's weird news that some very important paper pushers from the other side of the world are buying into one of Manhattan's most important developments in decades: Hudson Yards' Manhattan West.
The Qatar Investment Authority, or QIA has invested in a 44% stake of Brookfield Property Partners LP's $8.6 billion development that will erect five buildings.
One of those buildings is a 844-unit, 67-story skyscraper right near the already famous Hudson Yards project, which is at least now partially complete.
Brookfield CEO Bruce Flatt announced recently that, "Brookfield has enjoyed a long-standing, successful relationship with QIA and we are thrilled that they share our vision for this transformative project."

The skyscraper mentioned above will house lots of companies no doubt but will prominently feature law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom LLP.
Also in the mix is the Associated Press NYC Headquarters, to be redeveloped, as well as an 844-unit apartment building.
Times are a-changin', New Yorkers... you ready?
