The New York City subway turned 111 years old a couple of days ago, and as Bilbo Baggins once said when he turned that ripe old age, "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." 

That's pretty much how exactly how we feel about the subway.

It's a giant old system. As much as we'd like to think we do, we don't know it inside and out. 

We don't even think the MTA workers do. And it all started with Raphael Gustavino's City Hall stop, the classiest subway station in the City. 

It's only a ghost station nowadays, but we know it's still there being all fancy without us. So here's to you, NYC subway. We've all had some crazy times with you. Here's to 111 more years... well, we think.
