Because Carmelo Anthony Even Admitted It: 7 Times You Absolutely Hated NYC with a Passion

If you haven't heard, Carmelo Anthony admitted that at times, he hates New York.

Do we feel him? Yeah, Melo, we feel you.

"New York is the greatest city on the planet, I think," Anthony said in an interview with Vice Sports. "But you're not a New Yorker if you don't wake up some days and be like 'man, f*ck this place.'"

We have to say, Anthony's words ring true. While we love living here, we love the rivers and the buildings and yes, we love the prestige, sometimes it gets old.

We wouldn't trade New York City for anything. However, there are some mornings we wake up absolutely tired of it.

Read on to commiserate with us about 7 times we absolutely couldn't stand this city.

1. When the pressure gets to be too much

audiwags so good to see old friends for dinner tonight. They brought this amazing cake with a special message from the pastry chef. #toomuchpressure #fearoftheblankcanvas #rickedylittlehand

"New York is known for being the best, but with that being said, there's no patience here in New York, so you kinda adapt to that mentality," Carmelo Anthony said.

Do you ever feel that way? That since all dreams are possible in NYC that there's not only a tremendous amount of self-imposed pressure, but also a lot of pressure coming at you from all angles?

Carmelo Anthony had an explanation for our seemingly bi-polar relationship with NYC.

"That's the reason it's so up-and-down here; one day you're the best thing since sliced bread, the next day you're scum on the bottom of somebody's shoe," Anthony said.

2. When everyone is so successful

reinadela7 #Yeezus #kanyerant #Mood #Nori when you #bartend an #expensive #sportingevent in #NYC & 2days str8 n folks wanna ball out on drinks &don't tip & want extra alcohol, are u freaking kidding me? #IfUpaywithcreditleavecashmorons #USuck! #NoClass #NoWay #Choke #nycistheworst #dirtyhoodratinfestedapple

The thing is, in NYC you're so close to your dream you can touch it. You can even brush up against it. Sometimes that's harder than being far away from your dreams.

Like, when you go to a show and watch an amazing performer onstage. You can see the performer up close, and you're almost taunted by that person's mistakes. It occurs to you that you might be able to do what that person's doing. You're just not.

Sometimes being so close to the dream is much harder than being no where near it, because it taunts you. After work, you're like "I should do stand-up comedy, but I'm going to watch Netflix in bed instead."

At least if you didn't live in NYC, your excuse for not pursuing your dreams would be "but I don't live in NYC." When you live in NYC, you have no excuse but your own fear or laziness. The good news is that these can both be conquered.

3. When you miss nature

chickenphoenixx My current mood: slipped on snow and bust my ass. Wired-up from pre-workout to realize my gym is closed, stuck in crowded train with heavy delays and a homeless dude. And I'm starved... #fml #Icant #overit #ihatenyc #whyme #fuckyou smelly homeless dude

Sure, there are a ton of public parks here in NYC. We've got the High Line, Washington Square Park, Governor's Island and of course there's Central Park. Now, we've even got the world's first underground park.

Of course, these public spaces are completely sacred.

We've got to say it though. There are days we're trudging through trash covered streets, peering up at a smog filled sky when we really wish we had one of those things called a back yard. Where we wish we could visit a serene woods, and the human-made ones in Central Park just won't cut it.

Carmelo Anthony agrees with us.

"This is the hardest place to have a bad anything," Anthony said. "I'm used to it, I'm immune to it, but sometimes you want some peace, some tranquility, you just want to relax."

4. When the MTA can't get it together

lauhar1414 October can't come soon enough! #overnewyork #ltrainproblems #ihatenyc

We bet Carmelo Anthony takes Uber more than the subway, so we're not sure whether he'd agree with us on this one. We've got to say, however, that we haven't been into the MTA lately.

If they're not canceling our train's service over the weekend, they're keeping us stranded in trains underground for a half hour at a time. Really, we were recently on an L train that was just chilling underground for a half hour.

On this particular train, the conductor kept coming over the loudspeaker saying, "We're stopped because of an issue ahead of us. We'll let you know when we have more information."

It's pretty panic inducing for them to say, "We don't know anything about the situation, we'll let you know when we know more." Then, the train starts moving again after 30 minutes like nothing happened.

We would love it for this to happen way less, since we do completely rely on the MTA to get around and everything.

5. When you're poor

i_hate_ny I had a plastic kitchen set bigger than this when I was 3. Apartment searching is the worst. #goingtoseeittomorrow #ihateny #nyc #ihatenyc

Have you ever wondered whether it was possible to have fun with your friends without spending money?

Well, sure, there are free events in NYC, and plenty of municipal spaces, but of course we want to treat ourselves to The Meatball Shop, concerts at The Bowery, and Broadway sometimes.

We can't always do these things, but when we do we're usually left drowning in a certain degree of guilt, and of course, way poorer than before we indulged in NYC's perks.

Plus, every New Yorker knows there's no sadder day of the month than when the rent check comes in the mail. We all usually find ourselves wondering, Is it worth it to live here? on the day the rent check comes in the mail.

You realize you're an adult in NYC once you discover that $1,000 isn't even a lot of money anymore. When you were younger, you definitely thought of $1,000 as a ton of money and now, it's enough for one month of rent, or not even enough for one month of rent.

6. When everyone is pretentious

i_hate_ny Im only on minute 63 and I'm fucking hungry. Why do I do this to myself? #ihateny #ihatenyc #brunch #nyc

Sometimes you wonder whether it wouldn't be better to just pack up and move to the suburbs somewhere in the middle of America.

You've met celebrities, and you've discovered the wild and crazy secret about celebrities; they're all just people. They've all got woes and stresses and feelings, and they experience awkward moments and sadness just like everyone else in the world.

After you found out this insane truth, you wondered whether it wouldn't be nicer to not be judged every time you told someone what neighborhood you live in, where you work, and that you live with roommates.

7. When dating sucks

pumpkindelts Pretty much! Just wish my work schedule would let me own one though :( #dogsoverguys #doglover #foreversingle #datingsucks

Is it a fallacy that people are actually willing to open up their hearts in other places in America? That people are less petrified of getting hurt in Idaho or that they're willing to go out on dates in Indiana?

We don't know. We just know a girl that's been hooking up with the same person since April, and she and that person have done nothing but meet up when they were drunk. They have not gone out to dinner, nor have they ever hung out sober.

Seriously, our standards for what constitutes chivalry in NYC are so messed up. They're so much lower than they should be. Like, we're impressed when someone is willing to cross boroughs for us, or when someone brings us a $9 bottle of wine.

Sometimes we wonder if we wouldn't just fall in love immediately if we were to move to, like, Maine.
