It had been one of many time honored traditions, sneaking beers into the movie theater.
If you're crafty, you can get your own popcorn in, and no doubt some bodega candy. You know what it's all about, why double the cost of your movie outing on concessions?
But in recent years, New York City's movie theater policies have changed a bit, notably allowing the sale of alcohol. So at least you can buy beer at the theater like a normal human being, you don't necessarily have to smuggle it in.
But now another luxury theater is opening in NYC and it's designed to make you quit Netflix & chillin' and go soak up a feature flick on the big screen.
The company is called iPic, and while they're a hit around the country in cities like Austin and Miami, their first NYC franchise is due to open June of 2016.
The fancy new theater will be in the newly renovated Fulton Market Building at South Street Seaport and will include eight theaters, ranging from 43 to 143 seats.
The iPic experience is a step into the future of movie theater hospitality, sporting awesome menus with stuff like pizza, and... cheesecake brûlée.
Not only that, but there are also VIP viewing areas that include super extra plush seating and a service staff to so you don't miss a second of the movie in line at concessions. However, not being the first fancy theater in town, iPic already has competition.
At the moment, the Alamo Drafthouse Theater in Yonkers reigns supreme for boozy movies and great food, and they're looking to open another location in downtown Brooklyn in 2016 as well.
So in 2016 we should be flush with even more awesome movie viewing possibilities, with a variety of food, drink, and comfort levels from which to choose. Hopefully, if all goes right in the world, the new Star Wars will have an extended stay for when the new iPic opens next year.
