Odds are, you have Time Warner Cable.
We feel horrible for you if that's your situation right now, because we're pretty sure Time Warner is the worst cable and internet company in America.
Seriously, Time Warner is the most hated cable and internet company in the United States. They've got abysmal and dropping customer satisfaction, slow internet, and high rates. Does that all add up? No. No, that does not all add up.
We were wondering whether Time Warner cared about anything at all.
They claim to.
In an emailed statement to CBS News in regards to their having been ranked the lowest by the American Customer Satisfaction Index in 2014, Time Warner said "they're not satisfied with these results and [it's] working every day to deliver a better customer experience."
They said they'd improve their customer service by providing one-hour appointment windows and "dramatically faster Internet speeds."
Does it count as providing one-hour appointment windows if Time Warner comes two hours after their scheduled appointments? We vote that no, that doesn't count as "providing one-hour appointment windows." Also, it's been a year and we haven't seen faster Internet.
Read on to find out 6 other reasons why Time Warner is the absolute worst part about living in this otherwise wonderful city.
1. It's slow
laurenchitwood This. For the past two hours. Endless reboots, resets. And my quiet night in my office to get lots of important things out the door is busted. Today was a complete and total friggen' Monday.
Let's face the facts here. Time Warner's internet is slow.
So slow, in fact, that NYC officials are investigating whether customers are getting the internet we've paid for, according to the Washington Post.
The New York Attorney General wrote a letter to Verizon, Time Warner, and Cablevision on Monday citing "technical and business decisions" made by these companies that may be resulting in slower download speeds for customers.
These letters also demand that the companies provide internal company data to prove that customers are getting the advertised speeds.
So no, you're not the only one whose Netflix is constantly buffering. We're pretty curious to see if Time Warner will actually be able to produce this data. Our bet is on no.
2. It's expensive
jordan_blairr Me talking to my front desk agents when the hotel loses internet... Thanks #timewarner...
So if and only if Time Warner actual provides the internet speeds they advertise, here are their prices.
Buying 20 channels and an internet speed of 50/5Mbps with Time Warner costs $44.99 per month. Buying 20 channels and internet with a speed of 200/20Mbps with Time Warner costs $64.99 per month.
Buying 200 channels with Time Warner with 50/5Mbps internet speed costs $89.99, and this deal is guaranteed to last for year. The little crumb they give you is that you'll get a free Showtime trial for 12 months.
Just for fun, let's compare these prices with the deals Verizon Fios offers. With Verizon you can get more than 300 channels plus 80 in HD for $84.99 a month. This includes equipment changes, HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax. They guarantee this deal will last for two years.
In case you're not great at math, that's 100 more channels than Time Warner for $5 less a month.
Don't get us wrong. We're not wild about Verizon either. Verizon and Time Warner both strike us as sneaky cheats. It just seems obvious that Verizon's deals are far superior to Time Warners'.
3. They have absurd rate increases
luvinuluvinme OMG I REALLY HATE #TIME #WARNER #CABLE !!! Itz too #Slow half of the time to even watch #Netflix!!! Why are we #paying all this #money again? #timewarner #timewarnercable #twc #timewarnersux #timewarnersucks #timewarnercablesux #timewarnercablesucks #ihatetwc #ihatetimewarner #ihatetimewarnercable #wasteofmoney #twcexclusives #timewarnercableexclusives #timewarnerexclusives @timewarnercable
Did you notice during our rates section, Time Warner only guaranteed their rates would stay the same for one year?
That's a sneaky little tactic they use to ensure they're able to tack on extra rates and bills for the text year.
According to the Daily Dot, The FCC reported that rates for basic cable have risen at four times the rate of inflation.
What's more is that this has been going on for almost two decades. If you've been sitting around wondering whether it's normal that your cable costs so much, the answer is that it isn't.
,4. They're not helpful
dori143 LOL!! This is meeeeee! Ur first mistake @calicoded πππ»π¨π¨ #neverworksforme #annoyingshit #dastruggle #iHateTimeWarner
Whenever we call Time Warner, we're met by tired sounding people who couldn't be bothered to help us. We're not talking about you Karen. We once interacted with a very nice woman from Time Warner's customer service and her name was Karen. She laughed at our jokes, and we liked her.
Everyone else, however, is the worst. If they're not saying they have no idea why our cable box just petered out, they're leaving us on hold for an hour-and-a-half at a time.
If they're not doing that, they're rolling in at 3 p.m. after they said they'd come at 1 p.m.
Time Warner, could you stop it with the whole making us talk to robots and leaving us on hold, please? You're really making us hate you. Also, please don't call us before 8 a.m. to discuss our appointment at 1 p.m. Why would you think we'd want to talk to you before 8 a.m.?
5. Their equipment is shoddy
pigandkhao Please call for reservations.....as per usual we cannot take @opentable reservations because @timewarnercable is the worst company ever in the history of existence! π‘π€π’π€πΊπ©πΉππ½ #Ftimewarner #worstcompanyever #timewarnersucks #ihatetimewarner #Fthisholdmusic #howisthisreal #doesanyonelikethesemorons #wasteoftime
Let us tell you a little story about one apartment that was forced to have Time Warner cable by their building.
This apartment had two Time Warner cable boxes, and both of these cable boxes mysteriously stopped working before a year had even passed.
Why did the cable boxes stop working? They had sustained no damage. No one stomped on them or spilled anything on them.
It turned out that these were two just very lame cable boxes that were not engineered to last for any realistic length of time. They claimed that they would charge this apartment for the cable boxes unless they came and picked up the boxes and installed them themselves.
This apartment demonstrated a valiant amount of pushback, and eventually Time Warner trooped over to replace the faulty cable boxes. Does this help the apartments who don't push back? Who march into Time Warner to buy cable boxes to replace ones that broke for no reason?
No, it doesn't. Get it together Time Warner.
6. They have terrible customer satisfaction
boss_lady_stroot 55 mins and counting, 3 reps, 2 supervisors, 2 technicians, they even transferred me to the North Carolina market department!! I HATE TIMEWARNER π‘π‘π‘π‘ and I only use them for my wifi π‘π‘π‘ #ihatetimewarner #timewarnersucks #worstcustomerservice
According to America's Consumer Satisfaction Index, Time Warner's customer satisfaction decreased from 63% of customers satisfied in 2013, to 54% of customers satisfied in 2014. As we are customers of Time Warner, we'd have to say that we're a part of the unsatisfied customer constituent.
Time Warner, doesn't it ring some alarms that you have barely half of your customers satisfied?
Do you think you should try and do something about that, or do you just not care?
In the same study, Comcast's score dropped over the same period of time from 62% of customers satisfied to 57% of customers satisfied. That score is pretty dismal, too, but at least it's better than Time Warner's.
