New York City loves bagels, no question.
There is probably no place on earth that has better bagels. Much like Biggie Smalls, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, dollar slices and hating Times Square, bagels are a thing.
And they vary in terms of legit-itude. Yes, you can get a Dunkin' Donuts bagel for just around two dollars and they're ok, but there are plenty of NYC bagel shops that deserve your business more.
One of them, The Bagel Store on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, even has rainbow bagels. Yes, rainbow bagels.
They're kind of like rainbow cake, but a bagel instead of cake, and people are flipping the hell out over them.
Now part of the buzz is centered around some social media activity on the part of a reality TV "star" who is truly and positively inconsequential, so forget about that person and the associated Snapchat. Focus on your friends' Instagrams and stuff, please.
The actually relevant and important part is that these rainbow bagels are works of visual art as much as they are delicious. They feature a fun-fetti type cream cheese that's also pretty good, if you're into really sweet stuff.
See, the major upside or downside to the rainbow bagel is the sweetness factor. For many people it's a new and fun thing to have a super sweet bagel.

To others, it's basically just a donut. Lots of people adore savory bagels, hence the existence of garlic, onion, and everything bagels to name a few.
But sweet bagels? Cool idea. There have been some sweet cream cheeses for sure, but not really sweet bagels. When you combine the two, you're working with sprinkles and blueberry flavoring that conjures memories of cereal...perhaps Fruity Pebbles?
The only way to decide for yourself if this is a terrible idea or genius is to go try one. So what are you waiting for?
