In the world of weed, there's great weed, good weed, bad weed, and fake weed.
No, we don't mean that time you bought a bag of oregano from someone who laughed at you for days afterwards, we mean that garbage people call "K2," "spice," "fweed," and who really cares what else?
It's not really a new thing, but it is kind of a new problem, as people around New York City and beyond have been running into trouble with the stuff. It's being blamed for a series of seizures, hallucinations, violent behavior, and overall bad vibes.
So just yesterday, Mayor De Blasio signed legislation outlawing the sale of spice in NYC.
It's not like the mayor is coming out and saying "Smoke real pot!" But, he might as well be, right?
NYC is growing more tolerant to herb smokers in recent years. NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton recently caught a young lady blazing on Wall Street at 8:30 a.m. and just threw out her joint. We have the first medical marijuana dispensary coming to Union Square this January.
NYC, basically, loves weed.

If you're going to smoke something, it should be weed. Nobody needs to tell you that tobacco and crack are bad, so why do people resort to blazing bootleg tree?
For quite a while now, Spice has been the go-to substance for people on parole and under threat of drug testing. People in halfway houses and various other steps of "the system" seem to rely on K2 during hard times, when they just need to burn one and chill, but now it's become an "epidemic."
People are abusing it at alarming rates because of its low price point and wide availability. Not only that, there are some sketchy ties to Yemen, begging questions about funding terrorism (but really though?) and the origins of the Chinese chemicals added to the mix.

The area in East Harlem around 125th Street between Park and Lexington Avenue has been a hot bed of spice activity. Bodegas in the area have, in the past, been the easiest place to acquire this non-realness.
Following a giant raid in the area this past July that seized thousands of cases of the stuff, usage has significantly dropped, but it hasn't gone away. It's kind of stupid, and people are acting crazy.
So how about this: stop smoking fake weed. Real weed is not hard to come by if you have to smoke, and for the price of a bag of Spice you can get more value without suffering from potential crazy side-effects. Be smart: don't smoke fake drugs.
