We've all been there. 

Whether it's at home, on the street, or even evidenced in this recent study cataloging the conditions of the subway stations of New York's 26th District-- rats are all over New York City and you just have to roll with it.

Of course nobody wants them around, but they seem to be ever present, marking a 20% increase in rodent complaints from 20,039 in 2014 to 24,069 in 2015.

So is it a surprise that New Yorkers have filed rodent complaints via the 311 app 24,069 times so far in 2015? Maybe. That's a large number. But it probably pales in comparison to how many rats actually live in Gotham.

Think about it for a second though. 

If there are over 8 million people in New York City, and we're hoping we outnumber rats, based on our regular perception of rodents just about everywhere, we have to guess there's a hellish rodent orgy going on somewhere underground. 

Maybe it's in your walls. Order your floor. Going down in the street...

Now, the City attributed the astronomical number of rodent complaints to the ease of use of the 311 app-- as they're up 150% since last year-- making it easier than ever to complain about almost anything including rodents.

You can now also report rats, and everything else under the sun, at these brand new websites for each and every neighborhood in the city, so keep that in mind.

But mainly, how about everybody cleans up their act... just a little bit?  

Maybe we wouldn't have all these rats if the city didn't have piles of trash around every corner, if everyone didn't litter all over the place, and if New Yorkers made a real effort to keep the place clean, right?

Because rats can't really find pizza slices unless we make it super easy for 'em, amirite?
