There is a ton of theatre worth catching this season, and while much of the Daniel Craig-themed news is about the upcoming 007: Spectre coming out this November, let us not forget that the British man of mystery is also a gifted stage actor. 

So gifted, in fact, that he'll be starring opposite David Oyelowo in an off-Broadway production of Shakespeare's tragedy Othello next fall. 

In case you don't know the tale, it's basically a story of sabotage and intrigue, and Craig is the villain.

Othello tells the tale of how Iago, to be played by Craig, poisons the thoughts of the hero Othello (Oyelowo) to the point where, spoiler alert: Othello kills the woman he loves. 

Not cool, man. So what's the big deal? 

Well, usually whomever is casted to play Iago is not such a hunky ball of muscle and charm.

It's true that Iago is a skilled warrior and has a way with words, but he's not usually afforded such likeability as we might just give Craig.

In fact, he sometimes appears as sleazy as Grima from the Lord of the Rings series, you know, that skeevy pale weirdo council to the King of Rohan? Other times, some actors emphasize the theory that Iago's betrayal of Othello is motivated by erotic jealousy. 

So Iago is played as a closeted warrior on some stages, and simply just a tricky weirdo on others. Craig isn't expected to take either route.

As for Othello, Oyelowo is significantly less beefy than we're used to our Othellos being. Othello is a highly decorated Moorish general working for Venice, and let's just say he's normally more imposing, like Laurence Fishburne in Kenneth Branagh's 1995 film adaptation of the play.

So we'll have a hunkier Iago than we're used to, albeit with beady little blue eyes for extra sneak appeal, and a less intimidating Othello. 

From the looks of it, we expect this version of Othello to downplay the "otherliness" of Othello as an African in the Venetian army while also not emphasizing Iago's potentially (at the time) taboo swinging tendencies. A new take on Othello it just may be...

Details of when and where the show will take place are not released yet, but the curious casting news will have theatre buffs, Oyelowo and Craig fans on the edge of their seats for at least a few months until more details are released.
