Uh, what? It just became very cold overnight, didn't it? We hope you're unfolding your coats, wiping the dust off them, and wrangling your mittens, scarves, and gloves out of hiding. We know we are.

We don't know where the first half of October went, but we're looking to party hard to forget how fast time is going. You in?

Great. So, there's some dope happenings this week, and we thought we'd let you know what they are.

We've got the New York Television Festival, the New York Food Festival, and some very scary haunted houses. Plus, if you feel like laughing, Drunk Shakespeare and BATSU are always a good idea.

Oh, also did you know Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne will be at the Barclays Center on Tuesday? Oh, and Prince. Seriously. Prince. In real life.

Monday, October 19th - Saturday, October 24th

1. New York Television Festival (various locations)

If you love television and you're all about gatherings, then you have to be at the NYVTF, a pioneer of the independent television movement. Its aim is to connect a community of artists with leading networks, studios, agencies, production companies and brands.

This festival hosts thousands of artists, industry leaders. It's a week of TV screenings, panels, premieres, and more.

They also host an Independent Pilot Competition, which provides unprecedented access for emerging television artists.

Monday, October 19th

2. Drunk Shakespeare (300 West 43rd Street)

You know that whole Shakespeare thing, "To be or not to be?" or, "We are such stuff as dreams are made on." You know, the whole Shakespeare thing?

Yeah, Shakespeare articulated the human condition better than anyone, and we all know that. How about if we added a little party to the mix, though?

Yeah, we thought it'd be a dynamite combination too. At Drunk Shakespeare, four professional actors perform the familiar Elizabethan roles, except each night, a different one of them will be totally plastered. This sounds like a total blast.

The question isn't, "To be or not to be," or "Should you go to Drunk Shakespeare?" It's, "When are we going?" Monday night sounds good to us.

3. Blind Barber Happy Hour (339 East 10th Street)

Have you been meaning to get to a speakeasy?

Drinking delicious, expertly crafted cocktails in a fancy speakeasy sounds pretty fun to us, especially because of this particular speakeasy.

At the Blind Barber Happy Hour you can drink like it's 1920, as in, like alcohol's illegal, because the Blind Barber is concealed behind a barber shop. You'll also get to drink two-for-one on Monday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tuesday, October 20th

4. Tidal Concert (620 Atlantic Avenue - Brooklyn)

Prince, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, T.I. and many performers will hit the stage at Barclays Center.

Do we really need to say more? Okay, if you're not jumping out of your seat with excitement by now, we don't really understand, but there's even better news. 

All proceeds will benefit "nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing positive community relations and effecting systemic change for the development and sustainability of just societies."

Thursday, October 22nd - Saturday, October 24th

5. Gravesend Inn Haunted House (186 Jay Street)

Want to get scared for Halloween?

Great, because The New York City College of Technology has you covered.

Held at the Voorhees Theatre on City Tech’s campus, the Gravesend Inn is a high-tech haunted hotel that’s sure to petrify all who dare to enter.

Gravesend Inn is produced by Theatreworks, City Tech’s resident theatrical troupe. It’s a theme-park quality Halloween attraction that’s been terrifying its attendees since 1999.

Complete with animated characters and gory scenes, this ghastly hotel will be open on Thursday through Saturday, this weekend and next. It costs $8 to visit, which we think is very relaxed for such a scary hotel.

Thursday, October 22nd - Sunday, October 25th

6. Food Film Festival (234 West 42nd Street)

Have you ever watched a food porn film and died a little inside because of how badly you wanted to eat everything on screen?

Finally, the Food Film Fest solves that harrowing problem, bringing tasty food from the screen right into your mouth. Can you think of a better event? We can’t.

This competitive film festival is reviewed by esteemed judges who are members of the food and film communities, and awards are presented in categories like Best Food Porn Film, the Audience Choice Award, the Best Short Film, and Best Super-Short Film.

If you love eating and you love watching movies, make sure you get out to this festival. Past events have included a viewing of The Mud and The Blood which was proceeded by an oyster roast on a rooftop in Brooklyn with 15,000 South Carolina oysters.

Thursday, October 22nd

7. BATSU! (15 Saint Marks Place)

Who likes laughing? Everyone? We thought that might be the case.

This particular show, BATSU,  takes place in the basement of Jebon Sushi, and it blurs the line between comedy and pain. Stick with us here. BATSU is a Japanese game show, and it hurts so good. 

Contestants participate in a series of challenges. Winners will receive the eternal glory of winning. The losers? Well, losers will be met with more temporary doom, like paintballs, a giant egg smashing chicken, or electric shocks. Yes, the bravest of those in the audience are encouraged to participate.

Friday, October 23rd

8. Happy Hour at No. 8 (357 West 16th Street)

Have you mastered the Art of the Open Bar? If you answered no, would you like another shot at this classic art?

Here's a hint. It's a marathon not a sprint. We'll repeat that: a marathon, not a sprint. Now that our advice portion is over, feel free to get schwhifty on Friday. 

That's right. Schwifty. No. 8  is having a two-hour open bar on Friday night, and we quake with excitement when we hear the words "two hour open bar," too.

No. 8 is a stylish nightspot with a horseshoe bar. Jams will be blasting all night from DJ Kaos, and the open bar is between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Did we just find your weekend plans? We think we did. Get your tickets here.
