As you may have heard, and it's hard to imagine that you made it this far in the day without hearing, the New York Mets knocked the lowly, still very underachieving Los Angeles Dodgers out of the playoffs.
Yeah, didn't see that coming... Wait. Yes, we did.
Of course, shout out to both the Dodgers and Metro Los Angeles for their valiant, ain't-quite-gonna-cut-it, second tier (slightly above mediocre) effort at taking on NYC. Sorry for your loss. Hope your city doesn't get swallowed up in a big black pit of despair.
Next up on the chopping block? The karmic cataclysm of lovable losers from the windy, ugly-stepsister-from-Hell midwest: the Chicago Cubs.
This is a team whose claim to playoff fame is the curse of a billy goat. Yes. An effing billy goat.
And the MTA isn't playing games. No. This time. Is. For real.
Yes, according to DNAinfo, they want everyone planning on going to the game to be able to get to and from the game with ease, so they're running with additional service on the 7 lines with-- wait for it --no construction disruptions at all whatsoever.
So yeah, that ominous "track work" (which we've always assumed is the latter truth in the joke, "Working hard or hardly working?) won't be delaying your commute to Citi Field this weekend. There will be additional trains running to Citi Field, and express services after the game.
Not only that, but they'll be getting you to and from Hudson Yards in throwback style. Yes, in honor of the Mets, MTA will roll out an 11-car IRT subway train that'll run from the Hudson Yards station to Main Street at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The train will sport some vintage Mets colors from when they were designed and built back between 1948 and 1964.
The Mets should make the playoffs more often, or, at the very least, the MTA should adopt the beat-to-death idioms all sports people use. You know, like, "Giving it 110%", "Leavin' it all on the field", or, "Practice? We're talkin' practice."
