So, speakeasies are supposed to be hard to find. Speakeasies are supposed to be incognito, under the radar, secretive, clandestine, and indeed a little shady. 

They date back to Prohibition-era watering holes that had to operate in the shadows to avoid prosecution. The original secret club. Say the password. Open the door. Drink the dirt. Go home. 

Now, about 100 years later, the speakeasy vibe is raging and has been for at least a few years.

So now, because nobody wants to do anything themselves, you can tour speakeasies of the East and West Village. There are two great speakeasy tours, neither of which make any sense to miss.

The first tour takes you through the West Village and is happening on Thursday, October 15th. You don't have to show up in costume like the Jazz Age Lawn Party, but there is kind of a dress code: no shorts or sneakers. 

The idea is to be guided from one sleek bar to another without having to hunt them down on your own.

If you've ever tried to find a speakeasy all by your lonesome, maybe with Siri's help, you'll agree you probably wandered for 20 minutes staring at your phone like a tourist, walking the same block five times.

Maybe you went to one of those half-assed speakeasies with a big sign and what not. Usually they're a bit more camouflaged than your average bar, so a tour is a helpful idea. 

The second tour scours the East Village, and it's going down Saturday, October 17th. Tickets for both events are $18, and that does not include drinks.

So remember, bring cash, wear fly shoes, and do not wear shorts if you want to get sloshy in the style of our illustrious grandparents...great grandparents? Pick a village. West side, East side, left side, strong side, whatever. Get schwifty.
