People say stuff like this all the time, "Well that's silly; that would be like if Disney decided to start making toasters, or if General Motors all of a sudden got into high fashion."

Well, now you can truthfully say, "JetBlue grows potatoes." 

That's right, near Eero Saarinen's TWA Terminal, that 21 Space Odyssey-looking structure at John F. Kennedy Airport that's due to be adapted into a hotel of 505 rooms, is JetBlue's new blue potato farm.

Made of 2,300 plastic milk crates, they're bolted together and secured into the ground. 

For what purpose? Nobody's really sure yet. 

JetBlue's Sophia Mendelsohn stated, "An airport seems like an unexpected place for a farming experiment, but what better way to explore our role in the food cycle than to harvest right in our own back yard at JFK?"

The farm will be producing more than just 1,000 pounds of potatoes too. There'll be arugula, mint, basil, beets and more crops known not to attract birds, as they don't really like air planes and air planes don't really like them.

Speculation is spreading about why JetBlue would randomly start growing blue potatoes at JFK. 

Maybe they'll maybe start to use the crops for making those blue potato chips you often find on their flights?

Otherwise, JetBlue is expected to supply ingredients to eateries at the airport as well as donate to food pantries.
