With the temperature dropping, leaves turning, and snuggling becoming a matter of survival because the heat doesn't work, it's basically the end of outdoor music festivals for the year.
Of course there will be stragglers, but by the time November rolls around, nobody wants to do anything outside unless it involves getting hammered to forget the cold.
New York City is a unique spot in that its venue and clubs don't really seem to suffer during the summer months, when lots of other cities see the majority of their top notch concerts moving outside for festivals.
But here, our concert halls are full of great shows all year round. Though, it is a true statement that they get better when it's cold out.
Without annual summertime events like Governor's Ball, BangOn! Elements, Summer Stage, and Jazz Lawn Party sucking up a lot of the talent, acts have nowhere to go but indoors for the fall and winter. That's OK with us. We like venues.
Sure, the security is usually tighter than festival security. There's generally less room (surprise) indoors than out. But, there is nothing like dancing your ass off and exiting the venue with no jacket on, and for 15 or 20 minutes, feeling your body temperature descending and being fully alright with it.
So let's take a look at some of the more interesting October concerts in NYC going down indoors, because nobody likes the drunk shivers.
1. CMJ Music Marathon (October 13-17, venues across the City)

CMJ has been a NYC destination event for years now. It's basically the City's version of SXSW but only music.
It's a great way to get to know New York bands and get exposed to venues you've maybe heard of, but never been to.

Super groups are hit-and-miss. That's not to say we don't dig them. We totally do.
Let's face it: As of late, The Dead has definitely lacked... life, but hopefully adding John Mayer to the mix injects some much needed energy into this super jam. We can dig it.
