Let’s face it, freedom thrives in New York City.
We live in a city that never sleeps, and as a result of this, we live so much of our lives out in the public.
However, sometimes it's difficult for “some” to differentiate the types of behavior that are acceptable in private and public settings.
Hence why MTA’s recent “Courtesy Counts” campaign aims to gives us New Yorkers a friendly reminder with a humorous approach that proper etiquette is at all times essential.
Sure, these have been around for a while, but they're definitely worthy of review because way too many people still suck at life on a daily basis.
1. “Clipping? Primping?”
subwaycreatures The moment you're so desperate to get the shit out of your teeth that you use a No. 2 pencil. @n0likes #subwaycreatures #csc #leadpoisoningatitsbest #donttrythiskids
We understand you are in a rush but this is not transit makeover.
There is nothing cute about hearing a tenacious clipping sound and having someone hit you with their elbow because they are busy brushing their hair and putting on make-up.
Or even worst taking food out of your teeth with a pencil!
2. “Dude… Stop the Spread, Please”

Seriously! Manspreading is a burden. The fact that there is a Tumblr dedicated to this alone says it all!
And may we add it is not just men who do this, women do it, too! Have you ever sat next to someone who has done this? It can get really creepy, really fast.
We understand that you are in need of space to feel comfortable, but when you are squeezing next to someone and doing this-- it’s just appalling.
3. “Poles Are For Your Safety, Not Your Latest Routine”
As much as we love music and watching people break-dance, it’s safe to say that many of us are petrified that a performer will fly off the pole someday and kick us in the face.
4. “Don’t be a Pole Hog”
You know how disturbing it is to be in a crowded moving train and have someone’s larger-than-life butt taking up the pole space.
Seriously, people. It's time to make yourself as small as possible in these tight spaces. Not literally, of course. Just, you know, try to take up as little space as you are physically capable of.
5. "It’s a Subway Car, Not a Dining Car"
This one sounds a little bit ridiculous, right?
But if you think a packed filled train with rude people doesn’t cut it and won’t make you cry, then perhaps the fresh aroma from some foul smelling food will.
Also (and this can't be overstated), people do weird, gross stuff on the subway. We know you're on the go, but remember that you're essentially "enjoying" your meal in a crowded, smelly, mobile bathroom.
