No matter how many fights erupt on the subway over people whacking others with umbrellas, no matter how many hairstyles are ruined and how many faces' makeup is smeared, no matter how awful those people who text in one hand with their umbrella in the other, the rain in New York City really isn't all that bad.
What?! Is that blasphemous what we just said? That the rain "isn't that bad?" We know. We've gone at great lengths to talk about why the rain sucks. So what. Find your own silver lining. Yeah, get at us. We're subversive, and you know you sort of agree.
Everyone who loves plants and who has super green buildings that collect storm water celebrates when it rains, at least, and it's time we joined them.
Those of us who get to sprint through the rain with a bae know that it can be amazing, and everyone who's ever seen The Notebook will agree that the rain is romantic.
Also, there is a lot more cuddling and relaxing that happens during a rainstorm than when the skies are clear. You know we're right. Read on to discover 7 reasons the rain secretly doesn't suck in NYC.
1. Running through the rain is exhilarating
beckyjaldrich Went for a run tonight and it felt so good π #back #onit #runningintherain #running #positiveattitude #fitness #health #weightloss #musclegain #feelsamazing #happy #exercise
Admit it. You've run through the rain and felt completely thrilled with life afterward. Maybe you were running alone, or maybe even better, you did it with someone you were electrified to be with.
Maybe the two of you sprinted through the rain to get to the subway, laughing the whole time, and one of you even hopped into a puddle and splashed the other.
Maybe you made out in the rain. This is everyone's fantasy.
Even if you ran through the rain by yourself, we all know the feeling of finally reaching our warm, dry destination completely soaked to the bone and enthralled with life.
2. Less pressure to look good
When you rolled over in the morning and peered out your window and saw the rain pounding down, you were secretly stoked, weren't you?
Instead of wasting time blowdrying your hair or (gasp) straightening it, you can just throw it back in a ponytail! It's not like anyone is magically immune to the rain and no one else in your office is going to look any better than you.
3. Rain boots

Let's face it. The rain is the perfect opportunity to rock your amazing new pair of rain boots.
Where'd you get them? We don't know. Maybe they're Hunter rain boots, maybe they're Northface, maybe you bought them for $12 at Target.
The point is, splashing through the rain when you're immune to its perils in a pair of impenetrable rain boots can make anyone feel like a rockstar.
4. Less pressure to go out
moneytrain81 Who else gets excited when plans get cancelled? #dontlie #cancelledplans #homebody #netflix #appletv #leavemebe #justsaynotohumaninteraction #thursdayhumor #picoftheday
Maybe you had plans to meet some of your friends for happy hour in Hell's kitchen. We're just speaking hypothetically here.
Maybe you're still hungover from the bender you threw over the weekend, you're dealing with headaches and exhaustion from your workday, and even if it were the most divine day outside, you still really wouldn't go to happy hour.
Then one of your friends sends a text that reads, "It's rainy and disgusting out. Let's meet up another night."
We've got one word to describe that text message: Victory.
,5. Cuddling in sweats
_.melsie._ This is cute.. And how I feel every morning lol ππ€ #ComfyBlankets #ComfyBed #WrappedInHisArms #iNeverWannaGetUp #GoodMorning
After running through the rain on the way home, after sitting shivering on the subway, after running through the rain on the way home-- you're finally in your lovely, warm apartment.
Your hot shower has never felt better. You get out of the shower feeling warm and cuddly, and you put on sweatpants and a sweatshirt and snuggle under a blanket.
What do you do next? That's up to you. Maybe you read a book. Maybe you binge on Netflix. Whatever you do, it's all happening while the rain is hammering at your window, and you've never felt cozier.
6. Seamless
guttaglamlife You can order food off the internet Honey!!! You dont even gotta talk to anybody anymore. The Robots do all the work. Just like in The Jetsons. Lol #SundaysDinner #MyfoodpicsareLife #FoodIsLove #Asian #Japanese #Hibachi #Seamless #mygreedybuttisjusttryingeveryspotontherenow
Do you usually feel guilty ordering Seamless, like maybe you should've gone to the grocery store and bought some raw chicken and cooked?
Well, tonight going to the grocery store was completely out of the question. What were you supposed to do, let all your groceries get soaked?
Since it's a monsoon outside, you can completely guiltlessly order Seamless from your favorite diner. You can even order your favorite thing without giving a thought to the calories, because you're wearing sweatpants and you're warm under blankets. Who care about calories in that state?
The answer is no one. The only slight guilt you feel is in regards to the Seamless guy who has to come out in the rain, but you mollify yourself with the fact that he'd probably be out anyway, right?
7. Everything gets cleaner

In addition to the cleansing affect of rain on the city, you can rest assured in the hopes that some of the grime will be washed from sidewalks, buses, and cabs.
That roof deck that had sticky beer splotches all over it? That'll get cleaned. Maybe the oppressive humidity will even break, and the city will be cooler for about a day.
The best part is that at the end of the day, a beautiful, colorful rainbow will rise over the buildings. The only thing that doesn't get cleaner is the person who uses the rain as an excuse not to shower.
We don't really understand this, because we absolutely love showers, but everyone who feels oppressed by the pressure to shower can celebrate. There is absolutely no pressure to shower during a rainstorm.
