If you're into visual art and have never been to the killer space at 119 Ludlowe Street, Con Artist Collective, then you're essentially waisting your time in Chelsea, aren't you?
Kidding. Chelsea is sweet too.
But at Con, you're swimming in different waters. The collective is home to around 500 members, all of whom are vibrant worker bees in a fantastic swarm of creation. There's a ridiculous multitude of content coming out of Con at all times.
The studio's location is in the heart of the LES, but there are many sterile, boring "galleries" around there, right? Yeah. True. This isn't one of those.
Ringleader Brian Shevlin curates, designs, and redesigns the space into whatever format is appropriate to whatever whimsey the Con crew is dedicating its collective effort towards. Though the majority of the space is always allotted to creation.
Now they've got Conicon 3.0 (like Comic Con NYC, get it?). The Opening Party gets things going October 7th from 7p.m. to 11 p.m. It's your traditional art world affair, but Con style-- something of an open house though; open to the public. The event runs until 14th, which is Gallery Night!

One of the differences between Con and lots of other galleries, collectives, or art spaces in general is their constant outreach to the community, and Conicon 3.0 is exactly that. Where many spaces would host a super-exclusive very private party, Con's doors are open.
And it fits their general vibe. You see, Con Artist Collective is just as much (if not more) of a creation space than it is a gallery space.

Lots of galleries have artists associated with them, but usually not as many as Con. So when they throw down an event: it's worth checking out.
Do yourself a favor and check out the opening party. If it's anything like past events at Con, you'll regret missing it. And if you can't make it, you can always stop in Monday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Plus, there's always Gallery Night on the 14th.
