New York City bugs the eff out for the holidays, and such rarely has anything to do with religion anymore.
As any moralistic holiday TV special will teach you, Christmas has been a consumeristic popularity contest for quite some time now, so much so that some of our favorite pastimes are really just things to do between sales, during sales, at sales, or before sales end.
Want proof? The Bank of America Winter Village will return to Bryant Park on October 30th.
That's a day before Halloween. It's not even cold yet, wasn't it like 80 degrees a couple weeks ago?
In what's NYC's way of playing Christmas Music before Halloween's fully back in the basement, you can skate at the famous Rockefeller Center rink beginning October 10th, a whopping 20 days before Bryant Park rink. Yay.
Reality check: the leaves are still on the trees. Come on. There'll be ice skating in shorts like some kind of mall in Texas or something.

Now Rockefeller Center, and the 17,000 square foot rink at Bryant Park's "Winter Village" aren't the only two of your premature ice skating venues options.
There are a couple other ice skating possibilities for the urban winter skater who just can't wait to get on the ice. Wollman Rink in Central Park doesn't have a opening date for 2015-16 just yet, but it'll also be late October.
And lastly, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside, Prospect Park. They even have skating lessons beginning in early November.
Now November sounds more appropriate. There's something about revving up for holidays in late December two months early that just seems unappealing. One month in advance-- sure, that seems legit.
