There is a lot of building going on in Manhattan right now, and that means there's a lot of demolition going on all the time too. But have you ever wondered just how many explosions (they planned) to happen over about the last eleven years? 

Now you can scope out this animated map, plotting every demolition in Manhattan since 2003. And, you guessed it, the map is basically one big explosion.

The animation, called Every Demolition in Manhattan, was put together by Address Report using Google Maps. 

This being New York City, it's entirely rational to expect nobody paid any attention to these demolitions with the exception of people trying to sleep through them and those inconvenienced in the immediate vicinity of said explosions. 

That is to say; outside the blast zone? Out of sight, out of mind.

But the coolest thing about this is that the animation is set on a timeline, allowing you to see when the highest concentrations of explosions. They fall basically right around 2007 and 2013. And the thing is, data for 2015 wasn't even available. 

If the 2015 numbers for Brooklyn were included, we'd see a giant splotch of red across much of Williamsburg, Bushwick, and beyond. Because gentrification.
